Weirdling

"The Arcanohelminth is useful in its raw state only insofar as one is willing to share their body and mind. The Weirdling is a much more elegant creation. What follows is the ritual to create one."   ~Lizefa Vernet, Journal #17

Basic Information

Anatomy

Weirdlings are creations of Biomancy, twisted from Arcanohelminths. Unlike their ancestors, they have a bulbous head that connects to a rapidly tapering wormlike body and two rudimentary appendages.

Genetics and Reproduction

A Weirdling will spontaneously lay a clutch of 7-12 asexually fertilized eggs if it is exposed to a large amount of magic. These soft eggs are covered in sticky mucous and will usually gather in a single mass.

Growth Rate & Stages

When the eggs hatch, the Weirdlings will flee from each other immediately and seek out sources of magic unless they are wrangled. When they are bathed in elemental energies, they grow into a full Weirdling. Until they find such a place, they will remain as the nonmagical larvae until they die of predation or natural causes.

Ecology and Habitats

Weirdlings can thrive wherever there is enough energy to allow them to grow. All other concerns are secondary for them.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Weirdlings feed from magical energies. A large enough infestation of them can cause areas of either Null Magic or Wild Magic depending on the nature of the source that they're feeding from. A weirdling in a Null Magic area will shrivel and die if it isn't fed magic.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Weirdlings were created to make use of Arcanohelminth abilities to provide magic without requiring the invasive process of being inside the host body.

Facial characteristics

Weirdlings lack a mouth and have two tiny black eyes covered by several layers of milky membranes.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Weirdlings are psychically aware of every sentient being around them within 120 ft. They can also detect the presence of Ley Lines and portals.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

Weirdlings can attune to sentient creatures that are capable of casting magic.
