Ley Lines

Ley lines are lanes of arcane power connecting portals to each other. They appear to occur more or less naturally, sort of like iron filings lining up between two magnets. While most spellcasters only interact with ley lines in subtle, unconscious ways, it is possible to tap into them with the right training or talent.

Manifestation

Ley lines are invisible except to those under the effects of Detect Magic or similar divination spells. While the colors involved don't translate properly into mundane tongues, they are easily distinguished from one another and with enough scrutiny can reveal the types of portals creating the lines, as well as their relative distance, direction, and strength.

Localization

Ley lines appear only between two portals. If there are enough portals clustered nearby one another, they can act more as an intricate web.
