Quilter's Guild
Founded in the 1800’s our town’s illustrious Quilter’s Guild and Trade Alliance (QGTA) had its start in Quaker activism, and many of the women heads of households had key local roles in passing wartime information secretly, aiding the Yankees, feeding the needy, and even participating in the Underground Railroad. Most of that history is unknown, except to local town historians and anyone who’d been forced on school trips to the local quilt museum. The Quilter’s Guild accepts paid memberships and has a yearly convention which draws quilt enthusiasts from all over the country and even the world.
This is why quilt patterns can be seen in the wrought iron gates, painted in murals, and featured on the sides of barns throughout the town and surrounding areas, and the QGTA is also the reason there is a semi-decent full service hotel in town.
Rumor has it the earliest founders of New Pembroke included witches escaping persecution. They handed down some of their lore that has made its way to their modern descendants. As a result, plenty of the local quilt patterns are actually magic sigils or runes and that new quilt your next-door neighbor made for you may or may not be wishing you a long life. That would put the guilds founding much earlier than the official date.
