Maya Goldstein
A teen, powered, age 15. Black and Jewish heritage. Maya is the daughter of Jacob Goldstein and Rachel Goldstein.
Maya used to live in New Pembroke, and went to Woolman Secondary School, but her family moved to Faith Ridge over a year ago. May is smart and good at track. She was ruthlessly teased after the “Coyote Incident,” in which a coyote broke into Mr. Moss's science class and wreaked havoc, but stuck close to Maya like a tame puppy. She was called "Coyote Girl" and was largely shunned after this. This might have been a big part of why the Goldstein's moved away to Faith Ridge.
Recently Maya lost much of her memory and has been pursued by a shadowy group and a man in a sharkskin suit and a rictus grin known as The Smiling Man. He has powers of memory and perceptual manipulation and military training. however, Maya was able to escape his clutches when she manifested powers of her own, including manipulation of light and dark to create illusions, invisibility, and the ability to talk to animals. She doesn't know what he wanted with her, but it is clear he is still pursuing her. Sadly, she has amnesia as a result of something the The Smiling Man man did to her, so she only remembers bits and pieces of what happened. Several other events from her life are missing as well.
She hid in the rhubarb forcing-shed at the Ru-Barb Ranch, owned by Ruby Catellano and Barbara Hoffsteader until Ben Thompson, Ryan Foley, and Marissa Davis discovered her presence. When the The Smiling Man came looking for her, they were able to keep him occupied while Ben Thompson took her to safety, with the help of Ms. Quislinger. Unfortunately, Barry Bachman was not lucky enough to escape the clutches of the The Smiling Man, and has now been turned into one of his pawns.
Barry Bachman continued to pursue Maya, presumably on behalf of the The Smiling Man, going so far as to attack the movie theater where Ryan Foley, Ben Thompson, and Marissa Davis were hiding her. They were able to get past Barry, but not before at least one person was killed and Marissa was badly hurt by exploding glass and lightning.

She likes sports, especially track and swimming. She is also a huge fan of the rock band The Bangles. She also loves food, and her metabolism means she can scarf it down like nobody's business and not gain a pound.
