Grand Council Of Mages

Situated at the top of the spire of the Collegiate Arcanum is the Grand Council Chambers where the 13 mages that not only run the wizard's college but the country of Mymeara itself, reside. Here is where they both live and work, high above the city of Illadryia that the college is the famous centrepiece of. These masters of arcane knowledge and power have dedicated their whole lives to the betterment of the practice and tutoring of magic and truly earned their seat at the council table. A position that can only be obtained by merit alone. Each member must undergo many trials to even be considered for a place to ensure they are fit for the task, with an emphasis on leading by example. To be selected for candidacy the would be council initiate must have proven themselves and stood out among those around them in their field. Only the cream of the crop is likely to even be monitored with a view to being put forward for a place. Once they have been selected they undergo an initiation period where they shadow a member of the council who acts as their mentor. More often than not this would be the wizard they will be replacing unless that person is dead or unavailable for any other reason. In this event they are mentored by another council member and also receive closer guidance from the Archmage themselves. After a period of at least one month they are then assessed and if they have proven themselves worthy, a ceremony is held in their honour where they are granted the rank of full council member and their seat at the Grand Table. Then they are given their set of Grand Council robes and their Grand Arcane Tome. This large book of magical lore is reserved only for those at the head of their field and each mage will have one focused only on their particular school of magic. Each one will be specific for that Grand Council seat alone. When they have attained full council membership it is then their responsibility to not only oversee the branch of the college they are responsible for but also attend to matters concerning the running of the country. Each seat will come with a distinct set of responsibilities for them to see to. These range from, but are not restricted to, matters of infrastructure, defence of the nation, economics and all manner of other roles pertaining to the running of a nation. As for the internal matters of the college they must oversee the recruitment of new initiates in their magic school. Also see that learning is carried out in a safe manner and especially ensure there is no risk of any incidents that could endanger the safety and security of the people.

Council Organisation

The Grand Council of Mages constitutes of one Archmage and twelve other mages, this is no arbitrary number, this is for a reason. Two for each school of magic taught at the Collegiate Arcanum and one to govern them all.
