Illadryia

Illadryia, grand city of learning and culture, Capital city of Mymeara and home to the towering Collegiate Arcanum, is situated on the north coast of the country. This fine city spans a large area and is the most populated city in the country and among the top in all of Kirileth. there are many, many shops of all different kinds, from blacksmiths, tanners, tailors and alchemy shops. You name it, it is likely to be there. Not to mention the many libraries although none can match the labyrinthine archives of the vast college at the city's heart. The city is built up in many levels that rise high up with the Highborn Tower, as the Collegiate Arcanum is otherwise known, at the pinnacle. Towering defensive walls surround the sprawling capital punctuated with towers and four main gate houses. Illadryia is a bright and vibrant city bustling with life, whether it be the lively colours of the many silk and fabric stalls of the market or the smell of the freshly baked bread emanating from the bakers. There is always something going on in the city. Located on the eastern side is Fort Waelmore that also serves as the headquarters of the country's military forces. From here the defence of the nation is controlled and orders are passed down the military's hierarchy. At the top of the Highborn Tower's massive spire is the Grand Council chambers, which houses the Council of Mages. The 13 top level wizards that make up not only those in charge of the college but the country as a whole. These represent all the various schools of magic with the Grand Archmage at the head. Only two mages in it's history have ever truly mastered all the four elements of magic, one being the currently residing Archmage and one other that is rarely spoken about and only then in hushed, guarded whispers.

Growth

The city has not always been so vast, in it's genesis it began only as a small fishing port that grew and grew. Eventually becoming an important thriving town due to the port, then up to a city and in time became the capital city of Mymeara after Tyliel, far to it's south west, was sacked and turned to ruin by wild, savage invaders from the south. It was not for a long time that the early beginnings of a college was founded, which originally started life as a main library. This was used as a central reserve for all important work of literature, mundane at first then more and more arcane tomes were stored in it's secure vaults. This was then expanded and expanded and attracted mages of all sorts and over time it became the Wizard's College and Government headquarters it is today.

Trade

There are many varied shops and and a large market with a very wide variety of goods and services for sale, not to mention the plethora of taverns of all classes. The centrepiece of the trade district, near to the hub of Illadryia, is the large covered market housing many vendors of wares such as fine clothing, the city's primary fishmongers, a potter as well as others. Perhaps the most notable trade services other than this market are the following:

Taverns

The city has many very diverse tavern, inns and the like catering to all tastes, from the high class of the Collegiate Quarter to the very low class of the Stonewall Quarter, near to the docks. No fewer than seven taverns can be seen from the docks themselves, four of which also housing brothels, which has a lot to say about life in that area of Illadryia. It is said that if a goliath or ogre is guarding the doors of an establishments then it is wise to think twice about entering, as it is often regarded that they are needed for a reason. Should they have a dwarf as security however then you are in a safe place.

Annual Fair

Each year a grand festival, known as the Festival of (INSERT NAME HERE), takes over the city. People travel from far and wide to take part in the festivities that span the first two weeks in (KIRILETH'S VERSION OF MAY - INSERT NAME HERE). The entire city is ablaze with life, cheer, bright colour and diversity during this period. It is a time to celebrate all the country has given them and all the wide ranging, abundant trade it brings. Although, as with everything in life, it is not without it's shadier side. The Syndicate is also hard at work, during the excessive revelries, the more nefarious operations are also hard at work, cashing in on the vulnerable. Whether it be pickpocketing, the many brothels that act as fronts for the organisation, gambling houses, street grifters. If there is dishonest coin the be had then you can guarantee someone is trying to acquire it somehow. The town guard and other authorities know this well are maintain a constant vigil to the best of their abilities but they cannot possibly cover every nook and cranny.
