Botswana

Botswana is a nation in Southern Africa consisting of the northern regions of the former Dutch African Colonial Empire, bordering Mzansi, as well as the colonial empires of Germany and the Anglo-Irish Empire.

History

The Dutch colonization of the regions of Botswana came primarily following the wars against Napoleon, in which the Kingdom of Holland came under the rule of Louis Bonaparte. Though the region was not originally settled by the Dutch, the colonial forces pushed further north after disputes with Great Britain saw the failure of the return of Cape Colony. Wishing to cover their financial losses, the dutch established relations with the natives further north.

The regions that would become Botswana officially came under the control of Holland during the Berlin Conference in 1885. The Dutch would expand their holdings to the borders of neighboring European claims, establishing relationships and treaties with the native populations. King Louis III extended the social experiment to these regions, though this caused significant social upheaval as the anti-colonial sentiments among the native African populations had to be suppressed on multiple occasions.

It was during the Great War that Botswana would be able to secure their independence. Though Holland became among the victorious powers, the Dutch court was overthrown in favor of a communist government. Holland would eventually join the Soviet Union. Many in the colonial government attempted to take control of the entire region, including the conquered states of the Cape Colony. However, the nationalists declared independence, though retracted many of the social policies of the kingdom in favor of right-wing governing that Europe had brought upon in the wake of the Soviet Union. This caused much upheaval, and Botswana recieved a great socialist rebellion in the capital.

Many socialist ideologues came to take control of the government and military, promising to remove the remnants of European colonialism. The People's Republic of Botswana was established in 1922.
