Vanquishing in Kingdom Earth | World Anvil

Vanquishing

Vanquish - to defeat thoroughly

As it applies to demons and the Fallen, to so weaken an individual being so that it is forced to return to Hell in order to rebuild its energy stores in order to live on Earth again.

Effects of Vanquishing

The being who is vanquished is most often faced with overwhelming exhaustion and often does not recognize that they have been sent to Hell for some time. They have no control over whether or not they go to Hell, their bodies simply take them there instinctually before they can truly be killed. To those fighting them, they simply vanish. The amount of time it takes a being to recover from this exhaustion varies at the individual level. Some weaker beings recover quickly, in the equivalent of a few Earth days. More powerful beings with larger stores of energy to rebuild may take many Earth years to recover enough energy to return to Earth. Most beings do not need to completely recover all their energy in order to return to Earth, only enough to make the journey there, which requires an output of energy. Once on Earth again, most beings can rest and eat in order to rebuild additional energy stores.

It often requires a great deal of energy in order to weaken another being to the point of vanquish. In many cases, the being that vanquishes also must rest for an extended period of time. In more extreme cases, that being might also choose to return to Hell to rest for some time, or to Heaven if the vanquisher is a Blessed angel.

Vanquishing the Blessed

When a Blessed angel is so weakened by combat that its energy stores are depleted to the extent that it can no longer hold form in Earth, it will be forced to return to Heaven to rebuild that energy. Depending on the strength of the individual, this could take days or years, in much the same way as for demons and the Fallen.

Used against:

Demons
Fallen Angels

Used to disrupt whatever actions the being is taking against mortals.

Also a tactic in general combat between/against Fallen and demons, or by Blessed angels against either group.
