Stardust Cat

The Stardust Cats are a rare and ethereal species native to the crystalline expanse of Astralyn, the domain of the goddess Siona in the Underworld, the realm of the dead. Revered for their mystical presence and their role as spiritual guides, these creatures are deeply intertwined with the journey of souls passing through the Underworld.

Physical Characteristics

Stardust Cats are strikingly beautiful, their fur glowing faintly with an otherworldly astral light. Most Stardust Cats possess pristine white coats that shimmer. However, variations do exist with some individuals displaying hues of orange or brown in their fur. The rarest and most enigmatic of these creatures is said to have a black coat, a phenomenon so uncommon, legend claims only one has ever existed.

Behavior and Abilities

These felines are solitary wanderers, their movements graceful and silent. Despite their elusiveness, they are known for their comforting aura, bringing solace to souls who find themselves in the vast expanse of Astralyn. Stardust Cats are drawn to those nearing the end of their journey, often appearing as spectral beacons guiding them to Siona's Tower, the final destination for those ready to receive the goddess' judgement and move to the Afterlife.

Stardust Cats feed on the lingering remnants of a soul’s doubts and fears. This process is believed to cleanse the soul, leaving them unburdened and ready to meet Siona. The cats do not harm; instead, their presence is said to instill a sense of calm, as though they absorb the weight of unresolved thoughts and emotions.

Cultural Significance

Glowbug: Boo's Stardust Cat
Among the denizens of the Underworld and those who revere its mysteries, Stardust Cats are symbols of guidance and purity. Stories of these creatures are shared in both reverence and awe, often included in funerary rites and rituals. They are sometimes depicted in murals, statues, and art dedicated to Siona.

Ecology

The Stardust Cats are intrinsically tied to the environment of Underworld, although they rarely travel the material plane as well. The crystal fields of Astralyn seem to provide sustenance to these beings, as they are never observed eating or drinking in the traditional sense. Scholars of the Underworld speculate that the astral light refracted by the crystals sustains them, allowing them to exist as creatures of both physical and spiritual realms.

Encounters

The living who have encountered Stardust Cats describe the experience as transformative. Many report a profound sense of peace and clarity after crossing paths with one of these creatures. The cats are non-aggressive and seem to exude an innate understanding of the souls they meet, often interacting in ways that suggest empathy and purpose.

Legends and Myths

Guiding Star

A popular tale tells of a warrior who lost their way in the Underworld and ended up in the dark realm of Noxaria instead of Astralyn. It was a Stardust Cat who appeared to guide them back, not through direct paths but through visions of their fondest memories, reminding the warrior of the life they had lived, the good deeds they performed and the legacy they left behind.

Shadow of Change

The myth of the Black Stardust Cat suggests that its appearance signals the impending transformation of Underworld and the end of division between Astralyn and Noxaria. According to legend, the Black Stardust Cat’s arrival would herald a moment of unification, dissolving the barriers between the realms and reshaping the Underworld into a singular, harmonious plane. Such a transformation would not only redefine the balance of power between the deities but also alter the journey of souls and the very nature of death itself.

At first I thought I would get one as a pet, but after reading it I decided not to. You don't want to leave so early. But with a cat like that, the end would certainly be easier. Very cute and great ideas that have been incorporated into the article - as always.

You had me with “cat”, but these cats are really lovely. I’m wondering though … if one black cat existed once was there a time were the underworld was united? Or was that just a myth and there has not been a black cat so far?

Thank you, once again! I love seeing your comments so much <3 To answer your question, yes, according to legends the Underworld used to be a unified realm before the two goddesses conflict break it apart. In fact that was the last time the black cat appeared and so its myth came to life.
