Disuh

A species of Near-Human which seem to carry some genetics from deer, disuh are sometimes (jokingly) referred to as "dwarf vampires" due to their short statures and long fangs. They are rarely taken seriously however, as their large eyes and short size makes them appear rather child-like to other species. Especially during the times when they've lost their antlers (which are shed annually, and typically regrow half a year later), they tend to have a hard time around other humanoid species. As a result, disuh tend to either cluster together in groups, relying only on each other, or spend time with non-human species, where they're less likely to be mistaken for children.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Disuh are short in stature compared to baseline humans, but have a good amount of meat on their bodies. Arms and legs may appear unusually thin, but this is usually just an optical illusion caused by their bodily proportions being slightly different than baseline humans--or Near-Human children, who they're often mistaken for.   A disuh's most notable trait is also one they only carry for about half the year: their antlers. Resembling the antlers of a muntjac deer, disuh antlers are fairly short, lack branches, and curve backwards. They're shed once a year, typically in late spring, and grow back in late autumn, but the timeframes may differ for disuh that travel a lot, or those who spend the majority of their time in places with significantly different climates compared to their place of origin. Antlers are not a sexually dimorphic trait, and all (mature) disuh grow them.   Aside from their antlers, disuh are also characterized by their long tusks, which are in truth overgrown canine teeth, and which only occur on the upper jaw. These tusks extend past the lips, and are thus always visible. They can be used in combat, but rather unintuitively, as they are better suited for slashing than biting. While this may work for the muntjac deer from which the trait originates, on disuh it is less useful, as their tusks don't protrude very far from their faces, and using them in combat thus risks taking damage to vulnerable parts of the face, like the eyes.   Speaking of which, disuh have larger and rounder eyes than most humanoids, adding to their child-like image. The pupils are large and rounded, and the iris covers much of the visible eyeball, leaving their sclera out of sight, like with many animals... including deer. Disuh also have pointed ears, which are slightly elongated compared to baseline humans.   Disuh have rather human-like (brown) skintones, though they lack the full range, varying from tanned to deeper brown. Their hair color varies from blond to brown to near-black, but their irises are always (warm) brown, and typically darker than the skin. The antlers, when present, are dark gray.
