Radiant of Umbar

The Radiant, also called the Heir of the Sun, is the ruler of the City of Umbar and is held to be quasi-divine. She is believed to be a descendant of Vraisos the Bright, who is said to have founded the city on the Summer Solstice of the year 3432 AW (1 SR).

Appointment

Shortly after the death of a Radiant (typically within a week and never more than a month), one of the Khausalévs of Umbar's Houses awakens with a tail, declaring her to be a dragonborn no more, but rather, a half-dragon.

The only exception to this would be upon the arrival of a winged half-dragon. Winged Radiants have never come from the city's nobility, and always seem to appear mysteriously from the Shifting Sands. There has been a total of eight winged Radiants over the city's long history, and their arrival is held to forsee great change and upheaval.

Until the Umbaric Succession Crisis, the requirement that the Radiant be a woman went without saying; one could not become a Radiant without first being a Khausalév, and one could not become a Khausalév without first being a woman.

New Radiants are always crowned on the first Summer Solstice after their lineage reveals itself. The Pythia leads the coronation, which is open to the public and held at the Grand Cathedral in Central Umbar.

2. Eirene Daukodeth was the founder of House Daukodeth. She was the city's first "Stirring Radiant" and second Radiant overall. Eirene reigned from 3793 AW to 3833 AW, for a total of 40 years.
3. Macaria Khúsoë was the founder of House Khúsoë and the city's 3rd Radiant. Macaria reigned from 3833 AW to 3847 AW, for a total of 14 years. As of 5160 AW, her reign is still the shortest of Umbar's 35 Radiants.
4. Thémis Vátrodotho was the founder of House Vátrodotho and was the city's 4th Radiant. Thémis reigned from 3847 AW to 3872 AW, for a total of 25 years.
5. Mítis Pázotho was the founder of House Pázotho was the city's 5th Radiant. Mítis reigned from 3872 AW to 3921 AW, for a total of 49 years.
6. Ozen II Vraisoséto was the city's 6^th Radiant and the second from House Vraisoséto. Ozen reigned from 3921 AW to 4022 AW, for a total of 101 years.
7. Aglaea Kátodoso was the city's 7th Radiant. Aglaea reigned from 4022 AW to 4055 AW, for a total of 33 years.
8. Eunomia Vátrodotho was the city's 8th Radiant. Eunomia reigned from 4055 AW to 4090 AW, for a total of 35 years.
9. Melíte Mílaukë was the founder of House Mílaukë and the city's 9th Radiant. Melíte reigned from 4090 AW to 4119 AW, for a total of 29 years.
10. Ránia Mílaukë was the city's 10^th Radiant, serving immediately following the death of her aunt, Melíte. Ránia reigned from 4119 AW to 4150 AW, for a total of 31 years.
11. Thálas I Vraisoséto was the city's 11^th Radiant and the third from House Vraisoséto. Thálas reigned from 4150 AW to 4225 AW, for a total of 75 years.
12. Lákhesis Pázotho was the city's 12th Radiant. Lákhesis reigned from 4225 AW to 4255 AW, for a total of 30 years.
13. Leuke Víluso was the founder of House Víluso and the city's 13th Radiant. As of 5160 AW, she is the only Radiant to come from House Víluso. Leuke reigned from 4255 AW to 4288 AW, for a total of 33 years.
14. Thero Mílaukë was the city's 14^th Radiant. Thero reigned from 4288 AW to 4324 AW, for a total of 36 years.

18. Díke Vátrodotho was the city's 18th Radiant. Díke reigned from 4471 AW to 4511 AW, for a total of 40 years.
19. Mínthe Khúsoë was the city's 19th Radiant. Míntha reigned from 4511 AW to 4534 AW, for a total of 23 years.
20. Alekto Khúsoë was the city's 20th Radiant, serving immediately following the death of her aunt, Míntha. Alekto reigned from 4534 AW to 4556 AW, for a total of 22 years.

34. Tisiphone Khúsoë was the city's 34th Radiant. She was the older sister of House Khúsoë's current matriarch, Persephone, and is the most recent Radiant from House Khúsoë. Tisiphone reigned from 5119 AW to 5138 AW, for a total of 19 years.
35. Navron Vraisoséto is the city's 35^th Radiant and the eighth from House Vraisoséto. Navron was the first and only man to ever hold the position of Radiant. He reigned from 5138 AW until being deposed in 5154 AW, for a total of 16 years.
