The Dwarven Confederacy Organization in Kalin | World Anvil

The Dwarven Confederacy

Beneath the mountain ranges of the North lie the various Dwarven Realms. Differing in size between small holds and vast kingdoms these Realms are now united under the Dwarven Confederacy. What this means in practice is simply that the Dwarves will come together to face mutual threats and bargain with foreigners with one voice. Functionally each realm is independent in terms of laws and society.   The Dwarves have become more welcoming to outsiders since the fall of the Torva many centuries ago, and are a much more common sight throughout Kalin. Though they are still very restrictive on who may own property or operate a business in their cities.   Separate from the Dwarven Confederacy are the realms of the Duregar, or “Abandoned Kin”. These Dwarves were cursed long ago and have black skin and fire red eyes. After their role in the Great War they have created their own realms which are mostly isolationist, and sometimes openly hostile. The only well-known exception to this Orgar, which allows foreigners into their city on a case-by-case basis.   Some of the more famed realms include Hells Gate ,Eir-Bron, and Jarak.

Demography and Population

In terms of demographics the Confederacy tends to have mostly Dwarven and Durengari citizens. Very few races are allowed to own property or become citizens in most Dwarven cities.

Territories

The Dwarven Confederacy is a scattered land with very little official holdings. Instead each Dwarven Realm holds its own territory that makes up a part of the Confederacy. Some can have wide reaching territory in the mountains, while some do not.

Military

Each Dwarven city holds its own military and its own soldiers, who will unite to defend the Confederacy if it is threatened.

Technological Level

The Dwarven Realms tend to enjoy a more advanced technological level, though are known for being less magically inclined.

Religion

The Confederacy is at a crossroads. While many Dwarves and Realms have begun to worship The Mantle many more still hold to the old ways and worships their ancestors. Ancestor worship is the ancient religion of the Dwarves, who believe their honored ancestors retroactively and proactively have a hand in the fates of the Dwarven race.

Foreign Relations

Dwarven diplomacy tends to vary from city to city. With some cities like Jarak pissing off their neighbors, while cities such as Eir-Bron being more peaceful with theirs. On the whole though the Confederacy enjoys a neutral-peace with most nations, and a warm relationship with the Drow of Lyath'Or.

Agriculture & Industry

Each Realm is different, but generally the Dwarves have just enough agriculture based on growing under ground mushrooms and moss and an abundance of industry. Though the opening of the world has made most of the realms import a lot of food to supplement their diet while exporting much more of their goods.

Trade & Transport

It varies from Realm to Realm, but generally the Realms of the Confederacy export their fine metal and stone goods and import food. Though many Realms also export Dwarven ale.

Education

Dwarven Realms vary in education. A few provide public education on various topics, some only train young Dwarves in certain trades, and some have no education. It varies from city to city.
