Duregar Species in Kalin | World Anvil

Duregar

During the Great War demon warlocks cursed a large group of Dwarven realms and used them against their own kin as mindcontrolled slaves. After the war the curse was broken but these new forms of Dwarf remained. While the desire for reunification was strong at first the cultural shame felt by these new Dwarves was too strong, and they retreated into their own realms, rarely to come out of their holes.   Named Duregar or “Abandoned Kin” these Dwarves are of similar build to normal Dwarves, but like the Drow their skin is darker, often coal colored. Their eyes are fire red like lava and they can see much better in the dark then even their other subterranean kin.   Little is known of their actual culture as Duregar are a rare sight, and the only Duregar city non-Duregar may visit is Orgar, and even in that case the city guards only allow small amounts of people in on a case-by-case basis. That said we know that much of their culture is more militaristic and has very strict laws to the point of near tyranny. The Duregar seem to have transformed their cultural shame into one of rigid self-control at any means necessary.   Duregar realms can often be openly hostile and belligerently isolationist, with travelers who get too close to their cities being killed on sight with little to no warning.
