Brianey

Home and namesake of the Briane and their kingdom Briana, Brianey is a harsh land that may seem daunting, and it is, but hard work and furious will to survive, it often yields great redwards and its people have fostered some of the greatest feats of Kadagard’s history.

Geography

Brianey is a land of mountainous hills, with a few flat valleys inbetween. Much of the land is hilly and rugged, which is notoriously difficult to cross. Travel is complicated by the fact that much of the region is covered by the Wōdenwood, a dense forest that is the primary feature of the region. The areas that aren’t covered in giant trees are expansive steppes, interrupted by murky bogs and swamps. The steppes are rolling expanses of hills with nearly a flat plain in sight, so travel still is not very easy. It’s especially difficult considering the fact that the steppes are largely featureless, with little landmarks, making it easy to get lost. The swamps are dense and waterlogged, with water in some places up to a man’s knees, and have been the death of many a traveler before. Aside from the marshlands, Brianey is known as a for its grand beauty. The Wōdenwood at the right time of day is a stunning attraction that many cannot claim to have seen. The steppes also have their own beauty, with the massive herds of animals adding to the stunning display of flowers and grass.

Fauna & Flora

The characteristic wildlife of Brianey tends to adhere to a simple trend: big and wooly. Much Brianey’s animals are well adapted to the cool, chilly weather, and those that aren’t migrate from the region when the weather gets cold. In the wooded regions, there are deer, elk, rabbits, boars, and squirrels, and wolves, bears, foxes, lynxes, and owls to prey upon them. The largest inhabitants of Brianey’s forests are the Giant called fir bolg, who browse freely from tops of the trees with little to fear. On the steppes, are massive grazing animals whose grand herds stretch as far as the eye can see, chiefly the bison, aurochs, giant deer, and mammoths in more northern parts. Living in between these environments and picking and choosing prey items from both, are the Trolls who have asserted themselves as the regions top predators. These primates prey on anything from deer and wild pigs, to young fir bolg and full size bison.

Natural Resources

Brianey’s dominant resource are the Skywood trees. Their durable wood is known far and wide, and disired by all. Since largely only the Briane have the secrets to use it, they’ve essentially completely cornered the market on the most durable shield wood in the world. Aside from that, Foch is a valuable resource, sought after by many for its color and durability. Iron is also rich in the region, to the point of surplus. The steppes additionally provide excellent land for farming and herding.
