Spark Blisters

Sparks

Effect

It's the worst kind of weather. Blisters aren't for what you see it's what you get. My entire body hurts just thinking about the last time I was in a bubble. I was visiting some small town in Viuhrt with Grandmother. The weather had been dry for days only to be washed away with a sudden rainstorm. My skin was cracking, so I wanted to fully enjoy what little water we got. It lasted only an eighth of the day. I stayed outside a bit too long. I thought it was weird that no one was outside. Then, the pops. Small at first, like shy firecrackers. Then they got louder, surrounded me. Then, they covered me like a swarm of locusts. Stupid old lady never warned me as she stayed inside cool and blister free.

Has the initial appearance of spontaneous combustion in a localized geographic area. Random pockets of air will explode in bright pops that last only an instant.

Internal Combustion?

Sparks do not occur inside beings, generally. Beings are very self-regulating and will reject a sudden intake of anything if possible. However, if the weather is bad enough, it can get inside the lungs, flame sacs, and other areas. It will, however, occur on the surface, burning skin, fur, scales, and feathers to various degrees, depending on the overall severity of the blisters and the individual blister that sparks.

Cause

Spark Blisters, or colloquially blisters, is a phenomenon when sparks of electricity collect, gather, then explode. Most of the time these sparks are harmless, but larger storms can set things on fire or flash heat an object. The onset of these spark blisters is usually a rise in dry temperature.

The mechanism that causes blisters is an imbalance of mur in the air that create pockets of density. These pockets of mostly mur then, due to the law of repulsion, bring in more mur into the pocket. Then, when the amount of mur is no longer sustainable in the space, it will violently erupt, dispersing the mur into the air around. This will repeat until all pockets have been "popped" and the mur is safely mixed in the air.

Blisters occur primarily after rain. The falling water stirs the concoction of the air, and fire will pull fire together while water repels (also a law of repulsion explained in Reln). This creates the initial state of pockets of mur but does not allow for those pockets to gain further density. It is only once the water is gone from the air and ambient mur can move freely that the attraction starts.

Drier climates, such as higher altitudes, deserts, and lands further east, summertime, are the most prone to spark blister events.

Disaster strikes

In the small town of Taldr in Embvik, a horrible record had been broken on the morning of the 2nd of Eekrz, 128RU. The entire season had been a particularly dry one and the people began to worry for the safety of crops and houses. So, they decided to call a shaman to bring rain. It worked as intended and the town became bathed, dust first rising to the air as the initial waterfall hit the cracked ground. The rain lasted a day, enough to refill their wells. Then, they slept, assured that any consequence would happen under the cover of night. The Sayk rose and the people emerged, ready to start their day. That was when the first pops began. Rather than the typical distant and small pops, the first set the stage, an enormous explosion that singed the wall outside the local bakery. Blister erupted in a cacophonous guffaw, burning anything flammable and leaving dark letters in their wake. The people panicked, hurrying indoors to escape. This did not help at all.

By the end of the day, countless homes were a crumbled ruin, streets had divots, the air smelt of burnt things, twenty-seven were severely injured, and three lost their lives. The town had a population of one hundred and fifty-eight.

Since the burning Eekrz the 2nd, areas affected by Spark Blisters have since moved to find new and better methods to track and prevent disasters. As a general metric, they use the same naming metrics as earthquakes, a numerical scale from one to twelve representing severity and mechanisms to track the likelihood of an event occurring. Eekrz the 2nd ranked an eleven.

Tracking

  • Ambient mur detector that detects the dryness of the air. The drier it is after rain, the more likely spark blisters are to occur.
  • Ambient nep detector that detects the wetness in the air. The wetter it is, the less likely spark blisters are to occur.
  • Modern trackers combine the two along with the mixing capacity of the air. this tracks how dispersed the mur is in the chemical makeup of the air. If there is a high amount of electrical compounds close together, the risk of spark blisters goes up.

Prevention

  • The old tried and true tool is a lightning conductor. If the pockets of mur are brought to one area, they will not cause harm.
  • While not the most effective, the most sought-after tool is a generator that intakes ambient mur
  • The most effective tool, and of course the most effective and one of the least sought after is a device that churns the air. As long as pockets of mur can form, there is no threat of spark blisters, no matter how hot and dry the day may be. These devices don't have any completely visible effect, not the cooling of air conditioning, the heading of a heater, the moisturization of a humidifier, the drying of a dehumidifier, nothing so tangible. It is said by those who use them that it makes the air more palatable, but it becomes ambient and nebulous that many don't see the reason to sink such a heavy cost into it when a generator will do fine and collect energy for other use.

Generally. Oh. Well. That makes me feel better. <<
Then, they slept, assured that any consequence would happen under the cover of night.
Where they then found out, mistakes had been made. *sage nod*   I appreciate that the most effective tool is the one least used because no one can notice a difference, so it's largely assumed it's not worth it. That is so sadly relatable.

Spark blisters are also typically small and harmless, too. Just don't go outside :D   Quite relatable, and a big reason bad things happen. I don't see the point in having a lightning rod, it doesn't doo antying, until it's too late.

  XD no big deal, right?

Small local lightning strikes of high power static! Do you get hair standing up when the Sparks are starting or building up? Nifty weather effect!

Your hair would probably stand up and be pulled towards pockets. If you have several pockets around you, your hair may be pulled in different directions, making you look quite interesting.
