Scramsax Tandoran

Captain Scramsax Harris Tandoran

Personal history

Firstborn of Ivan and Hannah Tandoran, Scramsax grew up as an only child for many years in Midgrove City. Learning how to handle a sword from a very young age, Scramsax had a dream of being the head of the city guard. At 16 his sister Riara was born, and his regular habits of swordplay competitions and professional training fell to the wayside to assist his parents in raising her.   Over the next many years Scramsax would never join the city guard, his dream falling flat. His incredible skills with a longsword, however, would come prove to be invaluable. In 204 PD, Bloodletters assaulted Midgrove City. Scramsax was in the woods north of town teaching Riara how to parry blows with a shortsword. Several Bloodletters ambushed the siblings, and he dispatched them after a harrowing fight. Fleeing to the city proper to hide behind its walls, Scramsax and Riara were among the last few allowed in before the gates slammed shut, locking out the Bloodletters, and those unfortunate enough to find themselves outside the wall with them.   The Bloodletters made a ritualistic show of executing every commoner found outside the city, Ivan and Hannah included. Scramsax watched on in horror as Mohan Gartaula, an underling leader of the Bloodletters, beheaded his parents and countless others.   After the siege, Scramsax had no viable income for which to support himself and his sister. It was then in 205 PD that Corrin High-Hill, the leader of a mercenary band known as the Breakers, witnessed Scramsax's swordplay ability and offered him a place among his ranks. Desperate for coin, and the Breakers seeming to be an honorable bunch, Scramsax said goodbye to Riara and promised to maintain contact with her back in Midgrove City.   For the next several years, Scramsax fought and bled alongside the members of the Breakers, eventually forming his own twin company called the Silken Sabres in 208 PD. His company, as well as the Breakers, were scattered and disbanded in 209 PD during the gruesome Battle of Westhill. It was then that Scramsax had grown intolerant of the ineptitude of commanders, and retired from mercenary work.   In 210 PD Scramsax finally reached his new destination: Bryn Shander in the Frozen North. He used what coin he had left to open up a mercenary-friendly inn called the Northlook Tavern, and to send a messenger to Midgrove City informing Riara of his new home. His message was never delivered, as Riara had already left Midgrove City in search of his fate after the Battle of Westhill.   Scramsax died in 212 PD defending the Northlook, when a horde of undead sacked the city of Bryn Shander. He was turned undead himself, and slain by Sir Gandry Falstad, a Paladin of Bahamut. He was given a proper funeral by Cronn Blackhammer.

Gender Identity

Scramsax considered and presented himself as a man.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Surviving the Battle of Westhill is a fate few were granted in the Mithril Pillar. Scramsax also had a very successful yet short career with the Breakers, making good money and honing his skills.

Failures & Embarrassments

Being unable to join the guard of Midgrove City was a broken dream for Scramsax throughout his life. Even while leading his own mercenary band, the honor of heading the city guard is a feeling that eluded him for the rest of his days.

Mental Trauma

Being unable to find and help his parents before retreating to the walls of Midgrove City, and witnessing their deaths, caused Scramsax a great deal of guilt.

Morality & Philosophy

Scramsax was of the belief that whatever was necessary to survive in dire circumstances could be justified. He also refused to take contracts for his company should they target a rival military force in offensive operations, opting for defense contracts and culling Bloodletters, many of which he slayed.

Taboos

Any charming tale of Scramsax includes his unusual distaste for ale, preferring wine to nearly any drink, despite serving ale at the Northlook Tavern.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Scramsax's drive for purpose in any group found him befriending and training many of the members of the Mithril Pillar, including Hixus Manno for a short time.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

While incredibly talented with a longsword, Scramsax found problems handling bows and arrows.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Scramsax was good friends with Corrin High-Hill for many years before Corrin's death during the Battle of Westhill. He briefly befriended Hixus Manno before leaving the Breakers, and knew near everyone in the city of Bryn Shander.

All of the Tandoran family is deceased, Scramsax included, save for Riara. Scramsax's matrilineal family still remains in Blackhearth, but were never close to either of his parents.

Religious Views

Scramsax was not devout to any deity, but studied a few banned tomes on the subject of Bane, to learn fighting techniques.

Social Aptitude

Able to read people's intentions from a young age, Scramsax was able to draw out someone's intent with relative ease. He was usually calm and reserved even in the face of Bloodletters.
