Frozen North

The warm season here is short and mild, sometimes you can only see green grasses for but a month. The rest of the year is made of the Ice Winds, still nights, and the clearest skies in all of Kal'Araan. Some think it's too cold, and would rather stay in the south for the winter season. Our Tribe has been north of Kelvin's Cairn hundreds of years with nothing but furs and leather until the settlers came up to Bryn Shander, and while the cold is biting and food is scarce, the serenity and quiet of the North makes it all worth it.   -Cronn Blackhammer

Geography

The Frozen North is mostly a snow-covered tundra. Three large lakes, Maer Dualdon, Lac Dinneshere, and Redwaters are fed by the Shaengarn River which drains into glacial lagoons to the northwest. The Frozen North is also home to the infamous "Ice Winds", which are blisteringly cold windstorms. Areas that are protected from this wind are where most of the population lives, either behind natural barriers like The Dwarven Valley that sits beneath Kelvin's Cairn, or man-made barriers like the wall surrounding the city of Targos.

Fauna & Flora

Snow-covered pine forests and low-lying shrubs make up the majority of the plant life in The Frozen North. During the short summer, some wildflowers and grasses flourish with the melting snows. The lack of dense grazing material restricts animal life to small field rodents and rabbits, with few predatory animals such as eagles and Lynx.   As for the local population, they are mostly centered into ten human villages (granting it the moniker of Ten Towns). These towns include:
  • Bryn Shander
  • Targos
  • Bremen
  • Termalaine
  • Lonelywood
  • Dougan's Hole
  • Good Mead
  • Easthaven
  • Caer-Dineval
  • Caer-Konig
Along with these villages, there is a sizeable Dwarven population at the foot of Kelvin's Cairn, in a place called The Dwarven Valley, as well as the Reghed Bear Tribe to the north of Bremen and the Reghed Elk Tribe on the east peninsula.

Natural Resources

The main exports of The Frozen North are of Knucklehead Trout and Scrimshaw. Knucklehead Trout are a hardy and thick-skinned fish native to The Frozen North. Strong and difficult to catch, they require a skilled fisherman to bring in. Knucklehead Trout's strength comes from it's thick skeletal structure. Fishermen often carve these bones into trinkets and keepsakes, resulting in what is called Scrimshaw. Scrimshaw is useful for it's malleable nature and ability to hold trace arcane elements.
