Cragspire Mountains

The range of mountains cuts across the centre of Kaitstud, splitting the Fox clan lands from those of the other clans. Hidden in the heights is a secret valley where the dragons live.   One side of the Cragspire Mountains starts at the hills between the Cat Clan and fox lands. Then it stretches in an arc across the continent to the other coast between the fox and Bear Clan lands. It forms an almost impassable barrier.   The peaks at the Central portion are steep and tall. Very few humans, or Clan members, venture into them.

Crossing the mountains

For those who wish to journey to the other side of the mountains there are three routes. Travel to the east side and cross where they are lower between the cat and fox lands, or on the west side where it is lower between the fox and bear lands. These two options are possible all year round and are the easiest journeys, though may be considerably longer depending on a traveller's destination.   The last option is the single pass through the centre. This joins Wolvenpass in the Wolf clan lands and Castilion Town in the fox lands. It is a hard journey up and over, and it is only passable between spring and autumn. Once the snow sets in, the pass is closed.

Dragon valley

High within the peaks is a hidden valley. This is where the Dragons  first settled, and where the last dragon, Varvaara, hid herself after the rest of her family were slaughtered. The valley is unknown to the other humans and Clan members, as it is difficult to find or to safely enter.

Peaks

There are three highest peaks in the mountain range. Hookfang is the highest, and it overlooks the pass across. The two sisters is a twin peak to the west of the hidden valley. Lastly, Big Mumma stands between the pass and the valley.

Rivers

Four main rivers flow out of the mountains. One forms the boundary between the cat and wolf lands. Two join shortly after leaving the mountains. This forms the triangle of land where the Conservatoire is based, then forms the boundary between the wolf and bear lands. The last flows to the west through the fox lands.

Wildlife

The mountains are full of wild life. Eagles, and other birds of prey haunt the crags. Goats are plentiful within the valley. Greenbirds are common in the lower reaches.

Vegetation

The mountains are the only known location where Dragongrass grows. There are also plenty of trees of different sorts, other grasses, and shrubby bushes.
