Master Sataram

A man of Malmor and a great scholar. He has tutored many renowned academics and is a master of many disciplines.   One of his students was Vensensa, a young noblewoman of Malmor who studied with him both before and after she married Edregard I and became Queen. It was Sataram that she credited with the skills and knowledge that proved so useful in advising her husband the King in matters political and strategic.   In 815 he was granted land in The Heartland due largely to the Queen's favour, and built a tower named Cradlecrag in some remote hills where he could continue his research and work and be nearer at hand to the capital. In 822 an accident during an experiment in alchemical compounds caused an infected wound in his right hand. When the infection began to spread, Sataram devised a prototype prosthetic hand capable of gripping and holding a quill, and then had a surgeon remove the hand. Afterward he himself dissected the removed hand and documented its anatomy and the progress of the infection. He also revised and improved his prosthetic hand to a more elegant solution of polished pale wood with brass joints and springs. Although not a naturalistic facsimile (it had only three fingers and a thumb) he could use it to hold and grip items.
His manner was always pedagogic, addressing visitors with questions and seeking to draw out from them the full extent of their understanding on any subject.   His greatest work was his history of the land "From Sea to Shadow" which sought to be a comprehensive and well documented history of all the lands of Kaevil from the first landing at Novryk to his own times.
