Marellin, Duchess of Caervil

Marellin was married to to Kenlin, Duke of Caervil when she was eighteen years old and was fiercely loyal to her husband.   When he died suddenly at the age of only thirty-one, while Marellin was pregnant with their first child, she suspected treachery and fled the court of Novryk for her own safety, returning shortly afterward with their infant son Orlind 
She found her husband's younger brother set to claim the Ducal Seat and, mistrusting Renemorn, she presented herself to the Eagle-Helms - the Personal Guard of the Dukes of House Caervil and declared her son the rightful heir, and produced documents under Kenlin's seal naming her as regent.

With their aid, she was instituted as regent and, when Renemorn was asked to swear fealty to her and to her son he refused and was banished to his own castle.

She was not content to leave this snake to slither free however and ensured that loyal servants of House Caervil were placed in his household, discovering a plot to overthrow her and likely see to the death of her son.    She cleverly positioned some of her own supporters in a way that made them look suitable for an approach by Renemorn and upon exposure of his plot she had him arrested and executed in  the year 1011.

Since then she raised her son and kept a careful and clever eye on him as he developed
