Eagle-Helms
The Ducal guard of House Caervil, gaining their name from the styling of their helmets, suggestive of the eponymous bird-of-prey. Their other gear includes finely made armour, a scarlet cloak, and a sword with a decorative guard and pommel bearing the insignia of House Caervil.
Founded by Duke Vandrelan ("The Hasty") in the year 152 on the occasion of his wedding, the Eagle-Helms are chosen as the five most loyal, most skilled warriors of House Caervil. Each man is appointed on the retirement of his successor, which retirement is always decided upon by the veteran warrior himself when he determines he can no longer provide the highest-quality of service. Each of the Eagle-Helms swears to take no wife, hold no lands, and serve no other master for the duration of his service.
They live up to their code. There have been several occasions throughout history when one or more of the Eagle-Helms have given their lives to protect their Duke or his family.
