Ethaine

Ethaine is the term for the dominant religion of Etha and Ethernia, deriving its name from the same root as the mentioned regions: Eth meaning something like life or order.

Structure

The faith is organized under a sort of patriarchal system with all countries with substantial followers having their own head. The leader of the Ethaine in Etha resides in the province of Ethaine, just north of the capital and on the mainland.

History

Ethaine is in part derived from the faith of the Pefazi in southern Etha. When Kyohz Jason made his conquest of Tyro he brought with him the gods and teachings of the Pefazi. The gods, although receiving changed names and new additions, remained largely unchanged over the centuries. However, the marked difference between Ethaine and the Pefazi faith remains in the more mythological focus of the Pefazi and the more moral focus of Ethaine.   During an era of chaos in the kingdom of Kyohz' successors, there were many additions in the popular conscious of the faithful. There became a much more organized structure for the faith which helped to stabilize the political climate of the kingdom. Following Kilomunj's recentralization of the kingdom the church was greatly expanded and became integral to the kingdom.   Its role has since diminished but it remains of great influence on the populace.

Mythology & Lore

Ethaine focuses primarily on the concept of order.   Ethaine emphasizes the role of a state in maintaining and spreading order and civilization to the world, harkening unto it the will of the primeval gods.   Aside from this high-handed focus, there exist devotions to the separate gods and their own orders.   Irisitz, devoted of Eswass, is the god of nature. Long held responsible for control of weather and natural disasters, Irisitz was commonly associated with environmental conservationists in the modern age. Xusetegi, devoted of Eras, is the goddess of love. She is the goddess of lovers. Juxegi, devoted of Ebomica, is the god of war. His order was most prominent in the south of Etha and was home to militant monks in service of the kingdom. In the modern day the order still has influence in the military. Zixxux, devoted of Neurdan, is the god of chance. Zukizeror, devoted of Aron, is the god of friendship, union, and marriage. Historically, the order of Zukizeror has been those responsible for marriage. Feretegi, devoted of Ethaine, is the god of order and balance. Among the most revered of the gods, he in large part emphasizes the core of Ethaine. Siruha, devoted of Otah, is the goddess of music. She is worshiped largely at festivals celebrated in her honor. Zortezh, devoted of Tyro, is the chief god and the bearer of civilization. Vivachash (Fifashash), devoted of Holst, is the goddess of martial. She is worshiped largely in the north and is contrasted with her southern counterpart of Juxegi.
