Half-Breeds in Jiwenia | World Anvil

Half-Breeds

Standing alongside the multiple species that populate Jiwenia exists the half-breeds. During the Era of Harmony the number of existing half-breeds exploded as species began to intermingle, allowing scientists to begin to study the reproductive compatibility of the different species in a new light. Below is a recount of research gathered pertaining to such topic.   Few Things to Remember:
  • Technically, demigods are half-breeds but have far more exceptions and therefore will be given their own area for further conversation.
  • Alyrians are the most compatible species in Jiwenia, able to reproduce with all but a small number of species.
  • The only species in Jiwenia that can't mate is the Rekilese. The Rekilese numbers are replenished due more so to chance than science.

Explanation

Arakeanee and Maji
Arakeanee and Maji are two delicate species whose lives center around the idea of chakra magic. Both species can possibly die due to not maintaining their chakras and because of their balance with magic, many believe this keeps them from reproducing as easily as other species. A half-breed between these two, sometimes known as a Araji gain minimal abilities from both sides but will retain the need to keep chakras open or risk death. While it is possible for some Arakeanee to be born without magic, Araji are always born with such abilities. Appearance wise, they take on the Arakeanee features, while magic always seems to lean Maji.   Most Maji can not reproduce with a Cimmerian. The only exception to this are Dark, Death, and Time Maji, the reason for this is unknown.
Alloth
The Alloth is extremely peculiar due to the species itself being a demigod species. Reproducing with another Alloth continues the line, but reproducing with the few other species strips the offspring of all abilities and practically renders them the non-Alloth species. The only notable features that it retains from the Alloth bloodline are ears and all are born with heterochromia.
Sairs
Sairs happen to be the first were-creature species to be fully recognized as an official species of Jiwenia. These bipedal bird like creatures can only truly reproduce with Alyrians and Phaizarn. With both, the offspring is known as a Harpy, retaining the bipedal and appearance of the Phaizarn or Alyrian, but also having the wings, feathers, and legs/feet of the Sairs.
Demigods
Demigods only exist in species, i.e. the Alloth or individual form. Spirits and gods are unable to reproduce with the many species of Jiwenia causing the demigod title to only be passed due to blessing/curse or two spirits lying with one another and creating a species that was allowed to flourish.

Genetics

A half-breeds genetics depend on the parents. For example, any half-breed with Alyrian blood will not have access to magic. Alyrian genes are typically far more dominant than other species, allowing for the offspring to have more Alyrian genes than the other species' in the end. That bloodline will never again have access to magic, a process scientists call 'diluting a line.'   It is far easier to guess what the offspring will receive ability wise than appearance. A half Uqanan will always be able to access their chi and call upon their rage, but will never be able to do so on a similar level to pure Uqanans. Any Kre mixes will lose their immortality and half-Cimmerians will be susceptible to the taint as well as lose the ability to shift into a shadow.   When it comes to appearance it is far more difficult to determine as the offspring can come out looking solely like one of it's parents, or a mix of both. A few things are always guaranteed, such as a half-Uqanan having tusks though much smaller and rounded or a half-Kre always having longer ears though slightly more rounded and shorter.
