Magic in Jiwenia

“Everyone, even Alyrians, hold a magical essence. The capacity and ability to use that essence is what differs between the many species.” – Passage from Body, Mind, and Soul: Blood Magic’s Core
Magic in Jiwenia is a mere subtopic to the more significant arcane topic, where spirits, demons, deities, and unseen forces are also involved.
Magic is as common as air, in fact, it makes up a good portion of the air and the absence of it can lead to severe medical issues. The species of Jiwenia have some sort of connection with the arcane forces. The exceptions to this is the Alyrian species, though they are the only species that can manipulate magical forces into runes and enchantments.   There are two broad terms used to refer to everyone in Jiwenia in relation to magic: wielders and non-wielders. Sometimes an entire species, such as the Alyrian, are lumped up in the non-wielder group. Species that don't have a specific magic connection like the Uqanan or Dreolds have a 40% chance of being born with a strong magic foundation. This simply means that though any individual of this species can practice magic, 60% will find it far harder and the task much more strenuous.   There are four different kinds of magic frequently seen, they are chakra, elemental, ludá, and spell. All of them have limitations and things that the other types of magic do not have. Some of them can be used by more than one species, while others are exclusive to only a select few. Magic follows rules and limitations that many call the arcane equivalent. This basically refers to what witches and wielders must give in order to perform their magic. More often than not this is done by a wielder giving their energy and/or health in order to power a certain spell. Other suitable forms of trade is sacrifice and possession.

Chakra Magic

Though each individual species can open and close their chakras, that does not mean they can access chakra magic. This magic can only be found within the Arakeanee and Maji. While average Arakeanee can only possess black or white chakra magic, Soulkeepers have access to all the magic residing in this particular category. When a Soulkeeper undergoes a transformation, their bridge markings glow the color of the chakra in use. Maji use chakra magic a bit differently than their distant cousins. For one, they can’t naturally use it like a Soulkeeper can. Instead, Maji’s emotions allow them to use chakra magic and access their abilities. They can use more than one chakra at a time but also have a higher chance at being affected later or dying from it.
Red Magic
The magic for the red chakra revolves around survival. It is the easiest chakra to access and usually the go-to chakra for attacks and defense. While using the magic available by this chakra, the user can: enhance their senses, have a greater defense against certain attacks, and utilize a wide array of offensive attacks.   Soulkeeper: The Defense Transformation (also known as Body Transformation) relies on and uses this chakra, activating if the individual Soulkeeper is in extreme, life-threatening danger. When the transformation activates, it will rid the entire area of any potential threats before turning the individual back to normal. This transformation can not be controlled, even with those who have mastered their abilities. If the Soulkeeper doesn't have enough energy to power the transformation then it will siphon energy and life forces from those nearby. Leaving the state usually sees the individual drained and at a loss about what had occurred.
Orange Magic
When users learn and perfect the magic given to them by the Orange Chakra, they gain the ability to increase their perceptiveness. The orange chakra revolves around confidence and creativity, therefore leading to a much keener eye during problems and specific situations. This perceptiveness can manifest in different ways: sometimes it helps give a clearer idea of the problem, while other times it shows new solutions, and the power also can allow the individual to become more aware.
Yellow Magic
The yellow magic is based on one’s personal confidence in themselves. Being one of the hardest chakras to open, also means that it allows for great power to be wielded, and so it is possibly the best chakra magic for fighting. This magic will enable one to create energy beams, shields, balls, etc. that siphon off of the individual’s own energy storage. It also allows the user to pull from other chakras to fuel the magic, respectively if one does this, then the color of the energy will mix with the yellow.
Green Magic
The green magic relies on the chakra that concerns the bridge between the mind and the soul. The abilities that stem from this chakra allows the individual to affect the emotions of individuals nearby. It is an extremely dangerous and hard skill to master, but for those who do learn it, it can relieve someone from sadness, anger, etc. The consequences of such thing, even for the master, is that they absorb the emotion.
Blue Magic
This chakra magic revolves around mental health and emotion. This is one of the few colors whose abilities range depends on the Soulkeeper’s base color. For Soulkeepers who are white based, they have a more exceptional healing ability. They can heal one’s mind, soul, and body. For Soulkeepers who are black based, they have the ability to alter one’s mind, emotions, and actions. For black based Soulkeepers, this chakra is usually harder to learn as the intentions can too easily be manipulated for evil. Most of those who do decide to learn and master this chakra, discover that it affects their own emotions and leaves them mentally unstable. But there are indeed some who can master the chakra and stay sane, even when used for evil.
White and Black Magic
This chakras magic is different than the other chakras in several ways. One is that all Arakeanee have access to this magic, and Maji do not. Another is that unlike the other colors, not every Arakeanee has access to both of these colors. This magic is known as a foundation. Arakeanee that are born with white magic have a high level of consciousness and are filled with truth, unity, and harmony. They find meditating easier and can heal others. They can also cleanse others and call upon honesty and security. If used in a wicked way, those who wield white magic can disrupt the peace in another and cause their health and mind to deteriorate. Those who are born with black magic have high protection from illness, evil, and negative energy from outside forces. Unlike white magic that can heal, black magic can raise others from the dead. They can remove and apply negative outlets, luck, and cause confusion. If used in a wicked way, those who wield black magic can twist the heart and purpose of another and plague them until they die.
Violet Magic
This chakra magic is the hardest for any to master and learn. This chakra grants the individual the ability to summon spirits and command them. The higher the understanding of the chakra and power, the greater an individual can control it. This ability can tear an individual up before a spirit can even be produced, leading to extreme mental problems. Yet it can still be used safely by those who have not yet mastered it, just in small amounts.

Elemental Magic

Elemental magic resides mostly in the Maji species, though some of the powers also exist in other species such as the Sairs, Rekilese, Phaizarn, and Kre. Gifted to the Maji species by Nature and Ludanis, each Maji has a specific element that they can control that aids in the growth of the world.
Time Magic
Time elementals have two primary abilities, they can control small amounts of time and can see into an individual’s future. The elemental must choose which path to take, for both skills cannot be utilized safely. Controlling time has to do with the mastery level of the individual, but they can either rewind time, pause it, or fast-forward it in small increments, usually no longer than a minute. These increments often happen in a specific space around the elemental wielding the magic, and anything trapped inside the bubble will feel the effects. After using this ability, the user, depending on mastery, will either be knocked out for a while or will not have enough energy to do anything more for a couple hours.   Those who have profound knowledge in this kind of time manipulation can see their time bubble expand, affecting more of an area. Though this area is still relatively small in the grand scheme of things.   For those who choose to look into an individual’s future, it also depends on mastery. Those with limited knowledge of the skill will receive random moments of a possible future, broken up and not entirely in focus. While those with more understanding can specify what time possibility they would like to see. This ability can be used more often than the other, but over exhaustion can yield disastrous effects.   Time magic can be utilized by the Maji and Sairs. Though there is a handful of Rekilese and Kre that can see into the future. This ability should not be mistaken with abilities found in the ludá branch of spell magic (see Ludá Magic).
Fire, Water, and Earth Elementals
Like many can guess, fire elementals can control and manipulate fire – though it should be noted that they cannot create the element. Fire Maji will use this power to heat up specific areas and are usually sought after during cold winter months as their aura radiates heat. Though Rekilese have this ability as well, they are created with the fire as their core, meaning that most of these Rekilese will be found near volcanoes.   Water elementals reside under the same restrictions and laws as the fire elementals, only being able to manipulate and control the water. They use their powers mainly to help areas that get less water to grow and to clean water, this is one reason why Maji villages always have clean flowing water, and/or water wells. Unlike fire, water elementals do not radiate water and are not naturally wet (though they make excellent swimmers).   Earth elementals have the ability to create and reshape the earth around them. If their mastery is high enough then they can even develop buildings from this, though it usually takes at least one other earth elemental for success. They can manipulate anything that falls underneath the topic of earth, including rock, natural metal, and sand.   Only Maji have access to all three of these abilities. Rekilese and Sairs can only be fire, Phaizarns can be fire or water, and some Kre can find themselves utilizing earth.
Air Elementals
Both Maji, Sairs, and Phaizarns can be listed under air elementals. Being an air elemental for both groups has nothing to do with flying since all individuals can do such a thing. Instead, air elementals can manipulate and control the air around them. They can make the air humid or purify it, or even add toxins to the wind and scatter it.
Death Elementals
Death elementals can communicate and raise the dead. This ability is mostly tied to the length of time that one has died but is close to the Soulkeepers ability to learn how one dies and the ability to raise them. Death elementals use their energy and after raising a deceased soul, must rest for a day before being able to function correctly again. It is much easier for death elementals to communicate with the dead, a more manageable task that does not use up much energy.   This ability can only be used by Maji and Sairs.
Light and Chaos Elementals
Light and dark elementals can only be Maji and Kreol, while the Kreani were able to manipulate the light. Light elementals can respectively manipulate the light and similar to Arakeanee, can heal.   Chaos elementals are also known as dark elementals but it should be noted that it is not the opposite of light. Chaos magic is utilizing the chaoxian that can be found in the air, specifically magic, and can be used similar to air in this regard but is far weaker. Chaos magic is utilized by all Cimmerians and rare in Maji. Maji with this element can heal tainted creatures as well as aid Cimmerians in their own taint.

Spell Magic

Spell magic is the broadest form of magic in Jiwenia. Any species that has the ability to actually manifest magic inside of them can inevitably end up here. Though, this does not mean that all species do. Arakeanee and Maji do not fall in this category for reasons already stated. It should also be noted that not all individuals have the ability or patience to tap into their magic.   One way to understand the difference between other magic and spell magic is that this is more natural and not as specific. Meaning, while Arakeanee magic deals with chakras and must make sure they are open and flowing before use, those who deal in spell magic can utilize their magic at any time, under any circumstance. This magic has specific colors associated with specialty magic. All of those under spell magic also can use magic based off of spells. This revolves around a symbol language known as Kidii created by prominent ancient figures with the help of the deity, Ludanis. Spells can be combined with the specialty magic spoken about below.   When watching a spell user perform, one will note that they will always end up drawing a symbol in the air, this is an activation symbol. The activation symbols cover earth, water, air, fire, body, and spirit (these are known as the six principles as well). All spells that exist will fall under one or more of these six activations. For example, if a user had a spell that could cause plants to grow at an alarming rate, the activation spell needed would be one of earth, water, and spirit. An understanding of herbalism would also be helpful. An offensive spell that allowed the user to create energy balls would need the body activation symbol.
Healing Magic
Also known as green magic by those who use it, healing magic allows for the user to heal themselves and others. An understanding in herbalism and flora is helpful as these users can utilize certain properties in the flora to help with different degrees of healing. The most knowledgeable can heal broken bones. Though one of the simpler specialties, this specialty is highly flexible with spells, allowing for the user to mix it and always learn something new from experimentation.
Body Magic
Also known as red magic. Body magic is the act of being able to control, manipulate, and influence the body. This specialty is also commonly known simply as blood magic. The magic allows one to influence emotions and mind, it is all done mostly through the control of one’s blood. One can control another by also having a lock of one’s hair. It is also useful to note that those who specialize in this form of magic have reported that using one’s own blood magnifies the strength of the spell or ability. But because some are squeamish about such thing, they will mostly use hair or the blood of a creature and keep the blood in a large vial for reuse.
Spiritual Magic
Also known as white magic. Like the name suggests, this magic allows the user to look and walk the elysian plane. Users who use spiritual magic can also conjure up spirits, also meaning they can conjure up demons if they so wish. This magic takes from the energy pool, similar to the other specializations, but it should be noted that it takes also requires the user to have great control as it pulls on the soul. Perhaps one of the more dangerous specializations due to the wielder exerting too much energy, being weakened while in the elysian plane, having spirits sap their energy, and having conjured up spirits/demons attack the wielder.
Ludá Magic
Ludá wielders are the rarest of the spell magic branch only because one must be born or blessed into this group, one cannot learn a ludá. There are many different forms of ludá, each one unique to the individual, tribe, bloodline, etc. that the user descends from. The user can also get this from being blessed or cursed by a deity. While blessed usually means that the ludá was gifted with good intentions, cursed usually means that there are several downfalls to the specific ludá given. A ludá wielder can learn any of the other basic five specializations, along with their own, but cannot learn another ludá.
Tarot Magic
by Amrit Brar
Also known as purple magic and seen as one of the more basic specialties because of its accessibility, and yet, one of the hardest to learn and master by many. Tarot magic is the use of looking to tarot cards for answers and to read the futures of individuals. Many who begin down this path find it lackluster and hardly continue. For one to call themselves a master in tarot magic the user must have created their own deck, no two wielder’s deck are the same though the decks possess the same cards. Tarot wielders can access visions to the future whenever they please as well as learn of the intentions of others by utilizing their cards.
Chaos Magic
Also known as black magic. Unlike its name, chaos magic does not mean that the wielder can rain chaos upon others. It’s not impossible, but that is not the main intention of such magic. Chaos magic deals in curses, charms, and hexes. Wielders in this field do heavy studying to sense when someone, or something, is cursed and are experts at creating charms and setting hexes and enchantments into place. Despite the negative connotation of the name, chaos users are always in high demand thanks to their exceptional ability at rune-crafting, and dispelling and sensing curses.   With that being said, the chaos specialty can be used both offensively and defensively. During combat, a user has the ability to curse another as well as charm themselves for protection. Both work by establishing a curse/charm, placing requirements that need to be met for said curse/charm to activate, and then once it is reached, the magic will subdue, injure, maim, protect, etc. the target. It is a favored specialty due to this, but this is also what makes it one of the most dangerous specialties.   Chaos magic is primarily an energy specialty, meaning that it requires more energy than anything else to sustain. When placing a charm or curse, there is what is called an initial exchange. Swapping energy for the ability to activate and set the magic. Depending on the curse/charm, energy is needed to continually feed it. For example, if one places a charm on themselves that, if hit, will cause a personal shield to activate, then the shield (unless the duration was stated when the requirements were being set) will feed off the energy of whoever said charm. This is another reason why chaos wielders will always be seen with numerous talismans that allow them to gain energy, store more energy than normal, or siphon energy off of others.
