Guardian's Faith

"While they must have known their mark on history was significant, even they probably didn't expect that they would become the subject of not just a religion but the dominant Jeslorian religion. But due to the wondrous statues made by a secretive builders cult, the status of these heroes was elevated from historical landmarks to deities." - galactic Hitchiker's guide to jeslorian religion

Mythology & Lore

Guardian's faith is a secular religion that revolves around heroes of the past. It doesn't believe in gods, but doesn't discredit them either. In fact, it worships the heroes who have risked life and limb to protect Jeslore as guides of certain principles that can guide others towards a greater purpose, or simply offer refuge.

Divine Origins

The Immortals were already seen as more than just historical landmarks, they were heroes that saved the lives of everyone. But it didn't become a religion until a secretive builders cult first commissioned jewellery of 9 animals at jewellers all over the realm: An elephant, a killer whale, an octopus, a swan, an owl, a badger, a bear, an octopus, a barbspine, a snake, and a wolf. No one came to pick up the jewellery until overnight the purpose behind it became clear. 9 statues of Jeslore's greatest heroes were built overnight in different parts of the country, statues with the name of the hero, their philosophy and why they should be worshipped, their titles, and their symbolic animal. As a secular religion, these heroes were not to be worshipped for who they are but for what they did and their philosophy was something people could relate to and relief stress in their grim lives.   Mikely Buttersworth the first is the guide of the heroic, titled the martyr and symbolized by the wolf. Mikely's philosophy revolves around self-sacrifice as a means to inspire others. A pack hunter to the end, he led his team to hell and to ensure their survival faced Zartor alone and paid the price. He knew he couldn't beat Zartor, but knew that one day someone could, and wasn't going to back down. Fear is unacceptable, especially when others are at stake. Mikely's statue depicts him heroically raising his sword and shield. It is located in the city square of Linnesse.   Nathum, the first reaper is the guide of consoling, titled the feartaker and he is depicted by a snake. Nathum was one of the first reapers of Gloomshade, said to be a servant of death itself, yet his philosophy wasn't one of darkness and decay. Death is the ultimate relief, and while he knows it is scary to cross the bridge of the unknown, there is no escaping it. Death is not your enemy, he's an old friend that wants the best for you. Like a venomous snake, he brought death but delivered it in the most painless way he could manage. To hold his hand is to make peace with the idea death will catch up with you one day, but that can not stop you from living life. Nathum's statue depicts him in his typical robe, scythe in one hand while gently reaching out his other hand. It is located in the capital square of Necropolis.   Tower Cor Charlot is the guide of the stalwart, titled the protector and symbolized by the mighty elephant. Tower's philosophy revolves around protecting yourself and those you care about not just from physical harm, but emotional harm too. This can be done by offering support or by making light of every situation. Much like an elephant, Tower was sensitive, but also very powerful and even more so protective. His statue depicts him solemnly holding his sword in front of his helmet while resting his hand on his shield. It is located on a hill near Dimchester, Tower's hometown.   Blaze Daishi Crimson is the guide of resolute, titled the survivor and symbolized by a rat. Blaze's philosophy revolves around the burden of survival, and that walking away with your life intact is more of a curse than a blessing but the need for survival is a basic instinct that often overpowers rational thought. Additionally, after a great battle the stories of heroism should not be told by a bystander or scholar but rather by a survivor, and the survivor ensures that the depiction of conquest is both truthful and detailed. His statue depicts him with his helmet in one hand and his legendary fiery blade. It is located in Hayota, Blaze's hometown.   Sylvia Elizabeth Sunshard is the guide of the compassionate, titled the healer and symbolized by the killer whale. Sylvia's philosophy is one of healing and peace, and by using unnecessary violence, the cycle will only perpetuate itself. She is a peaceful creature, much like the orca. She believes that minds are changed through healing and caring. Additionally, her philosophy also states that the only way to move on from scars of the past is not to cover them, but to face them and then accept them as part of you. Her statue depicts her kneeling with her bow drawn, and her cape wrapped around parts of her body. It is located in the town square of Dowu'enne.   Klaut Nickolas Rosefield is the guide of the understanding, titled the chaperone and symbolized by an owl. Klaut's philosophy is one of understanding the true nature of people and withholding judgment until none of the details are foggy. He is wise and patient, much like an owl, listening to everything people have to say and not just acknowledging but offering advice that might be needed. By learning what drives others may be a significant advantage in dealing with both friend and enemy alike. His statue depicts him in his typical pose, laughing with one hand holding his belly and the other holding his pipe. It is located in the Aergique capital square.   Viktor Leif Larsvor is the guide of the curious, he is titled the explorer and symbolized by the bear. Viktor's philosophy revolves a lot about the burden of knowledge, and that on one hand people have an insatiable desire to know more and on the other hand may not be ready to learn it, and there is no clear way to know when you're ready for it. Additionally, there's the inherently curious nature he had, like a bear and his need to learn new things. It also talks about expectations people around you may have of you, when you have different ambitions, and what the best course of action is there. His statue depicts him holding his daughter Verena in one arm and heroically holding a sea dragon in the other. It is located in the Chenter city square.   Spectre the reaper is the guide of the mighty, she is titled the slayer and symbolized by a barbspine. A lot of Spectre's philosophy revolves around the idea that might makes right, and that the ends justify the means. Greater goals are hard to achieve, and to get there sacrifices have to be made. Sacrifices you will be judged for, but if there is a greater good, sacrifices always had to be made. The night is the darkest before the sun comes up, and it is no different with life. Her statue depicts her holding her mighty sword in one hand while raising the dead with another. It is located in the same city as Nathum's statue, just a few blocks away.   Katja Rahim Kheylana is the guide of the tenacious, she is titled the fighter and is symbolized by the badger. Katja's philosophy revolves around her fighting spirit and lust for freedom, and much like a badger can not be kept contained. She believes that freedom is well worth dying for, and that when your freedom hangs in the balance surrender is not an option. Much like the slogan of her faction says: "Freedom before death!". Her statue depicts her kneeling with her rifle in one hand and her other hand tipping her hat. It is located in Meckhagen, the town Kat grew up in.   Dexter Diasun is the guide of the brilliant, he is titled the genius and symbolized by an octopus. Dexter's philosophy revolves heavily about the rejection of all but science. Science and technology are the only ways for Jeslore to progress and everything else is either an irrelevant distraction or an active obstacle that must be overcome. He believes that mortals, with their abilities to make machines have the sheer might to overcome anything, but their biggest obstacle is division, and it shall be overcome sooner or later. His statue depicts him pulling on his tie from the inside of a robotic contraption. It is located in Pirate's cove.
