Nightblades are mages who marry a mastery of shadow-based arcane magic with weaponry. Generally masters of stealth and assassination, their magic tends to be heavily illusion focused.
The best-known nightblade, as of 5626, is likely Emperor Aneirin 'Cyne' of Aletheia. Despite initial suspicions that he might have been a warpriest or magus, his abilities to blend into shadow and conjure weapons of pure shade became widely known during the War of Empires.
