What happens if the very essence of evil is distilled into a poison? Hopesbane is the answer to that foul question - it is a distilled poison crafted by experts in the Medimian Empire from recipes provided by their infernal allies. Hopesbane specifically targets aasimar and other native outsiders, burning through their systems with an intensity that defies most healing magic.
Whilst hopesbane alone has very few options in terms of curatives, there have been some few survivors. Most notably, whilst Emperor Asterion of Aletheia did not survive his brush with hopesbane, his successor - Emperor Aneirin 'Cyne' of Aletheia, a tiefling with aasimar blood - suffered for far less time, and made a full recovery in time to take the throne.
Angels and other good-aligned outsiders are also affected by hopesbane, but to a lesser extent. It is mortal outsiders who suffer most strongly, and even pure tieflings may fall to hopesbane's corrosive powers as it eats away their life force with truly Hellish strength. Non-outsiders suffer a much milder poison, but are not immune.
