Uldal was the third child of Bergrem and his wife Wiemhild. His youth was marked by uncertain times, which only settled down when his father, as elected king of Lomgrinden, united the southern clans. After he took over the crown he led several campaigns to the east to expand the young kingdom. Under him the counties of Lernen, Welden and Rindbraken were established.
