Ginnyvale (GHIN-nee-vale)

Ginnyvale (a.k.a. Granny Ginny's Gin Distillery and Ginny Pig Farm) is a remote community in the Deezundeer Mountains, located in a large vale surrounded by steep cliff walls. The only way into the valley is a narrow pathway between cliff faces. Granny Ginny is an elderly female gnome and her relatives make up the population in the remainder of the hamlet.

Granny Ginny's clan keep themselves very busy, through two main products they create. One is a particularly potent gin gnown as Ginniper Gin made from a small wheat plot, and flavored with the fruit of the many ginniper berries that grow throughout the valley.

The other product is derived from the other primary inhabitant of Ginnyvale, wool and other materials made from the lush coats of the thousands and thousands of rodents known as Ginny Pigs that roam throughout the vale. Ginny pigs are small animals with plentiful, soft, luxurious coats of multiple colors and hues. Ginny's clan raises and cares for Ginny pigs, collects their fur and either bundles for wholesale export or spins it into a myriad of homemade products.

At any given moment, a traveler into Ginnyvale will see dozens of gnomes, young and old alike, attending to a number of different tasks, from herding pigs to spinning delicate gossamer scarves, dying coats and filling gin barrels. The smell of wheat, barley and ginniper berries permeates the air, while at the same time the constant sound of millions of tiny feet, tiny voices and tiny little eyes assail you, across the valley, from mountain wall to mountain wall, as far as the eye can see.

Demographics

Granny Ginny is the matriarch of the closed gnome society. Her husband died decades ago and she is assisted in her business endeavors by 5 sons and 8 daughters. Associated grand-, great-grand- and great-great-grandchildren manage the day-to-day operations.

Government

Ginny's word, as elder statesman and leader of the clan, is law. The community functions less as a farming community than as an extended family homestead. Which it is.

Defences

Ginny's family utilizes a selection of security clansmen to guard their lands. These are usually the largest, most threatening gnomes from the younger ranks of the family.

Industry & Trade

Granny Ginny's farm sells gin as well as Ginny's Pigs-derived products such as scarves, coats, muffs and quilts to the rest of the area. She does not, however, ever sell or give away any of her Pigs as pets, considering it a squandering of their earning value and an insult to their dignity.

Infrastructure

Granny Ginny's sons Binny, Kinny, Dinny and Irv and tend to the gin distilling, doling out the planting and cultivation chores as well as berry gathering and distillation process to their progeny.

Her daughters Rinny, Minny, Hinny, Winny, Lynny, Pinny, Finny, and Ethel and their families run the Ginny's pigs operation.

The bookkeeping, as well as day-to-day operations of the farm are managed by her youngest children, Linny and Lynny.

Assets

The care and well-being of thousands, perhaps millions of Ginny's Pigs provide the primary source of income for the community.

Geography

Ginnyvale is a large valley between a roughly circular cliff face that is likely the caldera of a long-extinct volcano. To reach the vale, travellers must climb to a hidden pathway and enter under the clan's watchful eyes. High, towering cliff faces loom over the valley, although the angles allow plenty of sun for growing and nourishment.

Fertile land allows grain and barley to grow, as well as plentiful supplies of ginniper berry bushes. These bushes not only supply the necessary berries for gin manufacture, they are a primary food source for Ginny's Pigs.
