Estrait Kingdom Organization in Irrelion | World Anvil

Estrait Kingdom

A Kingdom ruled by the renowned and cultured Estrait Family, and controlling the western parts of Irrelion, massive fortress cities and vast armies are just a few of the things that ensure the Estraits continue to keep relevant on the world stage in the continual struggle for power

Structure

Smaller villages and settlements typically have a representative chosen by an advisor sent to levy taxes and handle matters in the village, while larger cities each have their own methods of handling governance, with them still answering to the king. The Estrait family is well-liked by the populace, and trusts them to handle their own affairs for the most part.

Culture

While mostly peaceful, the population is quick to unite and take up arms against any threat to them. They do not seek war, but will not shy away from it. A longstanding enemy of the Afrington Empire, they wish nothing more than to spread outwards to lands long-held by Afringtons, past the mountain ranges of their capital.

Assets

A massive wealth of metal, mineral, and gemstone lies in wait underneath the mountains in their territories. Metal is one of the key parts of the Estrait Economy. Two massive fortress cities defend their lands, and have protected their mines from enemies. They have decent access to the sea, and have a decent fleet for that purpose, but it is mostly maintained for trade, as naval warfare is uncommon in Irrelion.

History

Founded by Cornelius Von Estrait in the year B.A. 615, multiple small cities banded together underneath Cornelius, a strong warrior and head of a prominent family, who quickly claimed and fortified territories which, to this day, have stood as Estrait Kingdom lands. Changes to all of the cities have come, mostly for the better. Walls constructed, roads laid, waterways carved, the lands in Estrait Control benefit from a generally high level of prosperity compared to many others in the world.

Territories

The entire westermost portion of Irrelion is held off at all passageways by land by the Estrait Kingdom, by mountain pass and sea. It holds fertile lands and vast plains, steep mountains and deep lakes, all enough to supply its population with almost anything it may need.

Military

The Estrait Military is a relatively standard force, of moderate size and with a normal skill range amongst their warriors, but they have the largest navy, mostly used for trade, but it gives them a strong claim to the waters.

Religion

While no official religion has been stated, Julius Von Estrait is a member of the Karmic Church and many people of the nation adhere to it because of him.

Agriculture & Industry

Lumber, Copper, Iron, and Grains are the main forms of agriculture and industry in the Estrait Kingdom. Metal is a key part of the economy, but rarely used industrially outside of arms and armour, as they export most of it instead.

Trade & Transport

Having a stranglehold in and out of their territory, bandits are less common in Estrait territory and traders prefer to make trades within their lands if possible due to the increased safety of the trade routes.

Education

Private schools are the most common form, providing those with the money to do so the ability to educate their children. A few colleges exist for different purposes.

The Estrait Kingdom mints its own coins, following the standard convention of minting Copper, Silver, Gold, and Platinum coins. Being a major trading power. The signature mark of an Estrait minted coin is the royal crown on one side, and the face of the current king at the time of minting on the opposite end, along with the year of minting.
Legislative Body
The King makes laws with absolute jurisdiction, but lets villages and towns pass rules on their own. Although he can directly rule any of these local rules as unjust and therefore disband them, many of them are simple laws meant to benefit that specific city, such as a city on a lake outlawing dumping of waste into the lake.
Judicial Body
The judiciaries, who act as governors or heads of state and rule in his stead, appointed by the king to do so. Also referred to as his advisors, they span in power and oversight, from handling small farming villages, to overseeing tens of thousands of people. They each answer directly to either the king, or another Judiciary.
Executive Body
Most towns large enough to require one have a guard force who either act under a guard captain, appointed by a Judiciary, or, if there is a military force present in the city, which is quite common, the highest ranking military official takes precedence if he so desires to overrule the local guard. Technically constituting martial law, it has been quite un-controversial, as though the military technically holds absolute control over law and local jurisprudence, locally appointed governing bodies, coinciding with judiciaries, have historically been left to their own devices by the military, both trusting each other to act in good faith and interest for each other,
