Oplar Kingdom Organization in Irrelion | World Anvil

Oplar Kingdom

Nestled in the north, tucked behind mountains, the Oplar Kingdom lies in territory filled with wicked and vile beasts and monsters, and with horrendous natural disasters being a normal event. Despite this, the kingdom not only survives, but thrives. The bulk of many luxury goods are sourced from the Oplar Kingdom, and the wealth that flows through the kingdom is almost too much to measure.

Structure

While the king retains the utmost say over all laws of the land, instead of, like other nations, appointed advisors or other rulers in his stead, the king directly rules over each of the towns.

Culture

Money and wealth are second only to the king. The rich get richer, the poor die trying to get rich. Despite being a weak player on the world stage, the wealth of the Oplar family, and the kingdom by extension, exceeds other kingdoms entirely, sometimes several times over, and this has led to a cascading culture based around lavishness, where money is spent to make more money, to impress, and to influence.

Assets

The coffers of the nation are by far the greatest asset. The wealth of money is near incomprehensible.

History

When the northern lands were fighting over power, during the Age of Blood, the Oplar family, at the time led by Walter Oplar, had amassed great wealth in the metal trade, which had recently given them money hand-over-fist. They financed private mercenaries and warrior groups to fight and conquest for them, and promised them places in the kingdom were they to succeed. While the Estrait Kingdom, Tauberg Autocracy, and Afrington Empire had been founded the decade prior, the battles waged on here for power, with the Oplar family just managing to edge out a victory, and cement themselves as rulers of all the northern lands. A few decades of insurrections and revolts from the edges of the kingdom followed, but were quickly quelled.

Territories

Set to the west of the Koldurian mountain range, and north of the Feldir Mountains, there are few easily-accessible paths by land into Oplar territory. The land is ripe with roaring rivers, towering mountains, deep lakes, and dense forests.

Military

The military of the Oplar Kingdom is quite small, but the equipment of the average soldier is almost always the highest quality gear money can buy. The military has little use in war, as war is exceedingly rare, and has not happened for a century, but the creatures of the wilderness pose a thread to traders, which are the heart of the economy, and so the military spends much of its time patrolling major roads and paths, ensuring safe passage.

The coins of the Oplar's are somewhat unique, in that they are 10-sided. Each different valuation of coin is marked on both sides with a different creature. Copper coins are marked with a griffon's head, Silver coins with a head of a naga, Gold coins with the head of a Kraken, and platinum are emblazoned with the snarling fangs and scaled visage of a Dragon.
