Black Phalanx Operations Group

The Black Phalanx Operations Group is a group of Tier 1 special operators that was in service to the former Taros Confederacy. Later, they would slowly be rolled into the United Nations of Worlds Special Operations Command.. Some elements of this group have also found service within the Elysium Protectorate, which also has a significant Taros population.

The history of the order is one that does not have any direct documentation but seems to spring from collections of warrior lodges coming together in the early days of the Taros Confederacy to defend all City-States against the Underhill Swarm incursions. This was a massive difference from each city levying its own forces , and being responsible for its own defense. Many of their early generals were also consummate statesmen and it was on their backs the bones of the Taros Confederacy were laid. Scholars, warriors, and craftsmen, each soldier is an elite unto their own right upon completing their decade long training. The final ceremony, the night of spears is a rigorous closely protected secret, and the candidates that emerge are some of the deadliest warriors in the entire Iron Sectors region.

The order is famous for its black combat field uniforms, Taros rifles, and their pilum spears that they use as a last resort or to anchor a fighting position with an obstacle of sharpened stakes.

Their services are highly courted but even upon the Taros Confederation joining the emergent United Nations of Worlds they have remained almost exclusively in the UNW command structure. There were some who sought to follow Cyrus Adonis out west, but his conduct on the planet Creusa and subsequent death by orbital bombardment scattered these wayward warriors for a time.

These soldiers were despondent, many took the feared loss of identity personal and mustered out. They would later return when Herald Daitrij, a fellow Taros, rose to the top of the Elysium Protectorate. A fiery leader who did not waste the lives of her soldiers, and who sought to empower a new set of warring city states to work together many could not help but be reminded of their ancient origins and soon thousands of these former soldiers enlisted in the Protectorate military, fleeting the United Nations of Worlds in droves.

The Black Phalanx today has been allowed to retain its status as a whole unit within Protectorate command, but they have not been utilized for their true skills in some time, and many are becoming restless, eager for a true test to prove they still have what it takes.

Their equipment might be colored differently, and the flag they defend might be a new shape and pattern, but the desire to re-unite lost peoples and protect those who need it has not been lost. These brave Taros will not remain under arms long if their dreams are not met- especially now with the death of Herald Daitrij on campaign against The Still Lady.
