Session 9: Reunions, Reflections & Defections

General Summary

DATE: 13/01/241-14/01/241

Upon arriving back at Kharahal the Party immediately splits into three groups, Narren heads home to rally the Gravekeepers and debrief them on what he had recently experienced, Grimmie is revealed to have been at home for the past few days (Ariadna just took them home as no Hedge-mage would assault the Fifth Pillar) while the others handed Stoycho over to the Mahan Compound. After handing the fugitive over the party splits again, with Lohren & Bubba heading over to the Town Hall to brief the Custodian while Lucis & Jarren notice and head over to what seems like a rally in the town square. In the Custodians Office Lohren briefs the Custodian of what happened in Mosfel and that they have returned with one of the fugitives, while also being informed that the town has recently been under attack by Revenants in search of something. Down in the town square Lucis and Jarren notice that the obelisk that stands as a monument remembering the Sootguard who fell defending the town against the Qivdaram has been brutally split in two, and that Wairheom Deschend is holding some sort of rally in front of it.

The gist of what Wairheom says is that it is high time to learn what it behind the walls under the Fields of Mahan, in order to properly fight the threat that now faces the town. He seems to be recruiting Deep Miners for an Expedition that will launch the next day. Lucis meets up with Lohren and Bubba while Jarren goes off to meet with Wairheom, a meeting that grants him insights that he did not previously have. Before meeting with Wairheom he learns that the Deschend’s have the artifact and that Relar has been using it, though Wairheom now seeks to return it. In the meeting he learns that the Revenants have been closing in on the Deschend Estate and that things have gotten too hot for him.

During this time Grimmie searched for his friends, but found that their usually hangout spot of the LAR DMG was closed and, now in a panic from recently learning about the Revenant problem, hurried over to Steve & David’s apartment, where he discovered David in a bad state and Steve panicking. After healing David with a healing potion and asking what happened, Grimmie and Ariadna rushed to Weston & Samiel’s place, a seedy look basement apartment. Here they discovered a Changeling impersonation Samiel, and that they had not seen either of the actual residents in four days. Ariadna suggested that they go to the Town Hall and ask for any information from the guild, which they did and learned that Samiel and Weston are alive, though currently in a Qivdaram outpost that they stumbled into, and that Marrin Corvent is still MIA.

Lucis, Lohren and Bubba meet with Narron who, with new information, takes the three into the Gravekeeper’s central abode and calls a meeting with the others, attempting to formulate a course of action. It is decided that the part will need to head into the Fields to return what was stolen, though they need to find it first. Lucis goes and purchases four magic lanterns (light spell on stone inside) to hang from the belts of those without Darkvision, and then heads to meet up with the others at the Fifth Pillar. Here Jarren informs them that he knows that the Deschends have the artifact, potentially at their Estate, and with that the Gravekeepers gather and march forth to demand it’s return.

At the Estate Wairheom is not initially forth coming, though through impressive intimidation he gives up that he does not have the artifact, though Relar does, and he is currently at one of his many workshops across the city. Leaving immediately after gaining a list of workshops, the party narrows down where he is and, after disabling magical defences, barges in to an extra-planar space, with multiple active automatons aiming magical weapons at them. Relar himself is in the centre of the space tinkering with something, only noticing the party as they attempt to get close, sparking an argument between him and Narron, though eventually the young tinkerer eventually gives in and hands over the artifact: a central control for automaton systems in Mahan. It has been added to, however, as a long red stone has been added to the centre, seemingly preventing it from being affected by some of Mahan’s displacement affects.

Preparing to leave for Mahan early the next day the party calls in favours, the Qivdaram provide a Drillship, the Gravekeepers organize supplies while the others rest and steel themselves. Bubba prays for guidance and receives no word from Ylros, Lohren write two letters; one to Atin and one to his Shogun, the former being mostly an apology for disappearing and then to keep an eye out for his wakizashi, while the latter providing information the Shogun asked for, Grimmie and Ariadna rest early, Jarren has a nice family dinner with his father and grandfather, Lucis drinks and heads to bed while Narren stays up all night planning.

In the early hours of the morning the next day they gather outside of the LAR DMG where Ambassador Qivass and Drillmaster Zazz are waiting for them. After some light goodbyes the party boards the Drillship, with Jarran and Lucis on the bridge and the others in the common area below. Narron hears something banging before the drill truly starts and, upon investigating, discovers the actual Zazz, bound and gagged in a storage closet (Grimmie had to open this close, was suddenly the strongest present). Using Hold person the imposter was captured and bound before the actual Zazz was freed and proceeded to pilot the Drillship smoother, while the others interrogate the imposter, who turned out to be Bhokov, a Changeling that was trying to get out of the city.

As they interrogate this highly wanted individual it came out that he had been manipulating things for a long time to try and force Tsuarinax to reenter the material plane, upon which a planar lock would be forced upon him, preventing him from fleeing back to his demi-plane. He admitted to manipulating the terrorist splinter group into acting earlier, though also stressed that he did not cause the split as it was going to happen anyway. After some arguing the party agreed to let ‘Bhokov’ go free, as he was being truthful and had sacrificed much to bring down a common enemy.
