Hivivian Empire

The Hivivian Empire, also referred to simply as the Hivivian, is a Technocracy hegemony made up of multiple alien species that maintains control over large portions of the Orion and Sagittarius Arms in the Milky Way galaxy. The Hivivian is a political, military, and technological affiliation, originally a mutual alliance between the Shalgan and the Shilizal, the Hivivian expanded into 4 other species (Staalzi, Gnimgian, Krilloir, and Becceorian) united in the pursuit of technology left behind by the Yictan.   However, the Hivivian, for unknown reasons, left the Orion Arm around the 10,000 BCE, and didn't return until the year 2725 AD when they began to wage a genocidal campaign against humanity, until their defeat in September 2735. Despite being the most powerful military in the Milkyway Galaxy, the internal conflict of the human's stubborn resistance combined with the military force of the Caniic and the betrayal of the Staalzi were formidable enough to overcome and even shattered the bonds that held the empire together.   The humans have also documented six classes of ships of Hivivian design, a battlecruiser, frigate, dreadnought, Destroyer, corvette, and one Super Dreadnought Mothership.

Shilizal-Shalgan War

Main Article: Shilizal-Shalgan War

The war between the Shilizal and the Shalgan began soon after their first encounter 180,000 years ago. Shilizal believed that Yictan technology should not be touched or used for personal gain while most of the Shalgan believed otherwise, and disassembled Yictan relics to produce their own versions. Their first meeting resulted in a bloody engagement. Physically the Shilizal were far superior. One Shilizal warrior was the equal to at least ten Shalgan. However, technologically, the Shalgan had the advantage: they had the Yictan dreadnought which proceeded to wipe out the Shilizal armada using hit-and-run tactics. At the conclusion of the war, the Treaty of Allegiance was penned and initiated, and the Hivivian was kindled.

Formation of the Hivivian

The word ‘hivivian’ is a combination of the Shilizal words ‘Hivi’ meaning alliance, or allegiance depending on the context and the word ‘phian’ (pronounced v-e-in) meaning ‘to bind together’. In this case to bind Shalgan and Shilizal together as one union in the pursuit of new technology and worlds. Much of Hivivian technology is based off of the technology that was left behind by the Yictan galactic race that ruled the galaxy 5 million years prior before their mysterious disappearance.   In the beginning, the Hivivian largely consisted of only the Shalgan and Shilizal races, until about 18,000 BCE when the Hivivian conquered and forcefully incorporated the Staalzi into its ranks. The Staalzi, though not a warrior people, put up a solid defense but in the end, it was for not. In order to ensure the Staalzi’s continued cooperation, the Hivivian has continuously kidnapped the Staalzi heir apparent. The third major race to be incorporated was the Gnimgian, a technologically-backwards insectoid race from the planet Gozolara. The Gnimgian were on the brink of extinction from overpopulation when the Hivivian ‘saved’ them by allowing them settle and colonize other worlds. The forth race to be conquered by the Hivivian was a primitive and unintelligent race of tanklike giants known as Krilloir.   Lastly, the final race to join the Hivivian was Becceorian, a brutish gorilla-like species. The Becceorian were intended to replace the Shilizal as military commanders after doubts of the Shilizal’s loyalty to the Hivivian began to stir among many Shalgan.

Government

The two ruling species of the Hivivian are the Shalgan and the Shilizal; though the Shalgan are generally believed to hold significantly more power within the empire. The Hivivian have fifteen echelons of government, the highest echelon being the Hivivian High Council, who are responsible for holding legislative, executive, and judiciary powers. Composed of 500 members of Shilizal and Shalgan, the High Council is ruled by a single Shalgan emperor. This emperor is the highest political and technological authority in the Hivivian.   The High Council consists of Shalgan Councilors and Shilizal Councilors, who are extremely important to the Hivivian society. They share the central technocratic and decision-making body of the Hivivian. In addition to the High Council, there are three other Councils: the Council of Enforcement, the Council of Technological Affairs and Doctrine, and the Council of Commanders. Below that numerous Institutes exist within the Hivivian government, each of which fulfills a single but important role within the Governmental body of the Hivivian.   In truth, however, the Shalgan and Shilizal have an uneasy coexistence, and political infighting is very common behind the scenes.

Military

Like other civilizations, the Hivivian maintains a permanent armed forces branch used to enforce order, conduct atmospheric and space combat operations, and generally project the Hivivian's power onto others. Led by the Shilizal and Becceorian as the Hivivian's elite soldiers and the Gnimgian as its frontline infantry. The military comprises the Hivivian Navy, the Hivivian Army and the Special Warfare Group containing the Special Operations Division (Spec-ops). The abilities of the various component races are often exploited by the military to help push forward the ever-growing war machine of the Hivivian.

Species

Many of the alien species conquered by the Hivivian are conscripted into, or gradually become part of the empire.

Shalgan

Main Article: Shalgan

The Shalgan, referred to as the "Hierarchs" by humans, holds the esteemed position of the highest authority within the Hivivian society. Despite their relatively weak physical prowess, they exercise complete control over both technological and political matters. This dominion is not solely achieved through their command over the Hivivian but also through their utilization of collected Yictan technology, further solidifying their supremacy.   The Hierarchs' power stems from their in-depth understanding of Yictan culture, which grants them a heightened sense of superiority and an unparalleled influence over the Hivivian community. Their extensive knowledge of Yictan technology enables them to manipulate and harness its capabilities to their advantage. By doing so, the Hierarchs are able to delegate the task of conquest to other races, such as the Shilizal, relying on their physical strength to carry out their bidding.   This intricate web of power dynamics places the Hierarchs at the forefront of Hivivian society, allowing them to shape and govern all technological and political affairs. Their control over the Hivivian, coupled with their mastery of Yictan technology, creates a symbiotic relationship wherein the Hierarchs maintain their authority while utilizing other races to expand their dominion. In essence, the Hierarchs' elevated comprehension of Yictan culture grants them not only an ego boosted by their superiority but also a technological influence that extends far beyond their physical capabilities.

The Shilizal, also known as Guardians to humans, hold a significant position within the hierarchy of the Hivivian military. As the second highest caste, they fulfill the role of military leaders, overseeing strategic planning and coordination of military campaigns and naval engagements. While ultimate authority rests with the Hierarchs, the Shilizal play a crucial role in maintaining the military structure and ensuring that the orders of the Hierarchs, as well as their own, are followed.   One distinguishing aspect of the Shilizal is their exclusive privilege to build and operate starships within the Hivivian society. This privilege grants them a considerable advantage in the exploration and defense of their territories. However, it is worth noting that the crews of these starships are typically composed of individuals from various races, highlighting the diverse nature of the Hivivian military.   The Shilizal caste operates on a merit-based system, where advancement in rank is achieved through honorable accomplishments on the battlefield. Skill and experience play crucial roles in determining the rank of a Shilizal. This system ensures that those in leadership positions possess the necessary expertise and demonstrated capability to effectively carry out their role as military leaders. While the Shilizal hold a level of superiority over other client races in the eyes of their own caste, it is essential to recognize that this perspective may not be universally shared. The complex dynamics within the Hivivian society involve interactions and interdependencies among various races, each contributing to the overall functioning of the military structure.

Gnimgian

Main Article: Gnimgian

The Gnimgian, also known as Crawlers, are insect-like creatures that make up the lowest caste of the Hivivian civilization. These creatures were encountered by the Shalgan when they were at a primitive stage of development, barely entering their own Bronze Age. Due to their vulnerability, the Gnimgian were compelled to join the Hivivian hegemony rather than risk extinction.   According to the Yictan charts, the Gnimgian are classified as a Tier 7 civilization, indicating their limited cultural progress. Upon their assimilation into the Hivivian, their history was erased, essentially reducing them to a slave race. Despite their reputation for cowardice and general ineptitude, the Gnimgian pose a significant threat in large numbers, which the Hivivian exploited to suppress the Gnimgian Rebellion.   The Hivivian strategy involved deploying the Gnimgian in large groups, thereby exploiting their numbers as a strategic weapon against ground-based adversaries. This approach proved effective, as the Gnimgian's collective force was able to overcome their individual shortcomings. Although they lack individual strength and capability, their ability to overwhelm opponents in sheer numbers makes them a potent force for the Hivivian.

Becceorian

Main Article: Becceorian

Becceorian Foot Soldier by Thach
The Becceorian, also known as Berserkers to Humans, are a relatively new species in the Hivivian alliance. Despite their recent arrival, they were used as soldiers and bodyguards within the Hivivian military, and quickly earn a close to equal status with one of the founding races, the Shilizal. This is largely due to the Becceorian's natural resilience to damage, thanks to their tough hides. Although they lack energy shields, their robust physical attributes compensate for this disadvantage.   The Becceorian rely on their pre-Hivivian technology, which is considered primitive in comparison to other Hivivian weaponry. However, this does not diminish its lethality. Most of their weapons are fitted with blades, adding an extra layer of danger and close-combat effectiveness. The Becceorian's aggressive nature is made evident by their occasional berserk state, where they exhibit a willingness to annihilate anything and anyone in their path. This behavior serves as a testament to their low tolerance when confronted or cornered.   Within their ranks, the Becceorian employ a hierarchical structure, with War Chieftains wielding plasma cannons and Chieftains relying on gravity hammers. They prefer to operate in packs of 3-8 individuals whenever possible. Over time, they have risen to prominence within the Hivivian military and have assumed pivotal roles such as squadron commanders. Their increasing influence indicates their ability to adapt and excel within the alliance.

Staalzi

Main Article: Staalzi

The Staalzi are a race that was conquered by the Hivivian nearly 18,000 years ago and forcefully conscripted to serve the Hivivian as ship ambassadors and mediators. The Staalzi technically oppose the Hivivian in every way, however, they presently have no choice but to serve, as the Hivivian has continuously held an important member of the Staalzi imperial family to ensure complete and total cooperation of the Staalzi Empress. Given the chance, the Staalzi would betray the Hivivian in a heartbeat, the only thing stopping them is the safety of their princess.

The Krilloir are the most recent race to be conquered by the Hivivian about 500 years ago. Though, conquered might be a bit of a stretch, as the Krilloir never actually fought back. The Krillour are the largest, unincorporated race of the Hivivian. They are commonly used as heavy soldiers for their immense strength.
