The Mysterious Disappearances of Magical Children

“Mama” The six-year-old little boy tugged at his mother’s apron.
“Yes, Cilix.” Mama looked down at her son’s upturned face.
“The twin, Tika and Turi weren’t in school today.”
“Why weren’t they in school?”
“Piri said that he heard his Mama and Papa talking. They were saying that the Mages came by and took Tika and Turi away from their parents. Piri said that their parents must have been bad to have them taken away.”
Mama picked Cilix up and hugged him tight.
“That’s not true, Cilix. Tika and Turi’s parents didn’t do anything wrong. Remember when your Papa and I told you that you couldn’t play with the crystals. That by playing with the crystals and making them glow means that the bad guys would take you away.”
“Yes, Mama.”
“Did Tika and Turi make the crystals glow a lot in class last week?”
“Yes, Mama.”
“Then that is what happened. When you make the crystals glow a lot, the bad guys come and take you away. Remember, baby, only make the crystals glow a little bit, not a lot.”
“Okay, Mama. Only a little bit.”
The Adana Sihiri Crystals are extremely important to the Magic Academy at Winterborn and the The Miner's Guild of Inanta. The Miner's Guild mines the crystals along with stones, gems, metals, and anything else of value in the mines on Inanta. The crystals are sold to The Magic Academy where they are filled with magic by the students who are learning to use magic.   BUT   There aren't enough students to fill all the crystals, and not everyone who has internal magic becomes a student no matter how much the mages and professor try to recruit them. So, the Magic Academy started forcefully recruiting magical children, at first from the surrounding area and then from further away. Since 2517, they have needed more and more crystals. At the same time, they have been opening more and more schools across Inanta to teach people to use the crystals. This gives them access to more and more children to see if they have magic. If the parents are willing to relocate or allow their children to attend the Academy, then they have another official Mage or Sorcerer. However, if the parents are not willing, then the child is kidnapped or the parents are killed and the authorities give the child over to the Academy, depending on which is easier for the Mages in that area.
