Thorpe Expedition

A crew of explorers ventures into the Forbidden Zone

The Thorpe Expedition was launched from Noirlan on January 15^th in the 1000^th year of the post-cataclysmic era. Touted as a commercial treasure quest in search of lost cities in the Forbidden Zone, the expedition's true purpose is to seek the origins of a tainted Renewal-era artifact of horrifying destructive power.

Structure

The expedition was conceived and financed by Orphea Chastain but she appointed Captain Zachary Thorpe to organize the sea journey and logistics of the mission. Orphea intended to lead the land-based exploration portion of the mission herself, but the disappearance of her ship, the MS Arcadia, has put the leadership of the mission in doubt. After failing to rendezvous with Orphea at Farport Outpost, Captain Thorpe decided to drop anchor and keep his own ship, the MS Hawke, in Farport and await Orphea's arrival. In the meantime the captain has delegated the expedition's party of explorers to conduct their own investigations of the coast. Collectively, the landing party elected to travel north to Trinity Village in order to gain access to the ancient pump station there.

Public Agenda

The public purpose of the expedition is to seek out the golden treasure of Eldorado. The legends of the Golden City are widely known and it was easy to attract a crew willing to brave the dangers of the Silent Sea in search of foreign riches. Only the crew and a few of Orphea Chastain's select confidants are aware of the expedition's true purpose. The public at large remains unaware of Orphea's involvement in the expedition or her personal quest to learn the secrets of the Deathbringer Orb.

A Need for Secrecy

Countered at every turn by her brother Oliver, Orphea attempted to maintain anonymity in her planning of the Thorpe Expedition. She recruited the mission by proxy through Captain Thorpe and told the crew nothing of the Deathbringer until the expedition was already well underway. This secrecy has caused tension and threatened to divide the crew on more than one occasion.
