Imaginaerium, Day 17 - Warfare In Writing

Editing might be a bloody trade, but knives aren’t the exclusive property of butchers. Surgeons use them too.
— Blake Morrison
We're a week into Summer Camp - how're you all holding up? Me, I'm a bit behind, with 3 prompts done and 7 to go... But the month's just started. We got plenty of time.   Soon, we'll get more prompts too, and I'm very excited to see what they are!

Book Recommendation

“Heroin is a fine business,” the directors of Bayer announced proudly and advertised the substance as a remedy for headaches, for general indisposition, and also as a cough syrup for children. It was even recommended to babies for colic or sleeping problems.
What happens when an entire nation decides to start using hard drugs, on an institutional level? In his book Blitzed, Norman Ohler explores just what happened with Nazi Germany and their decades-long affair with various drugs, from civilians to military.   As you might expect given the subject, this book gets pretty grim in places. Reader discretion is advised - don't bum yourself out during Summer Camp.

Video Recommendation

Continuing the theme of wars and bummers, the Great War channel follows the outbreak and progress of World War 1, week by week. They also have plenty of extra episodes about the personalities, equipment, and other details of life during this time. It's a really long, in-depth series, but highly recommended.

I would like to second your recommendation of the Great War channel. I would like to add Time Ghost's series on the interwar period, and the World War Two channel, both also by Indy Neidell. And by extension Sabaton History, again with Indy, which explores the historical backgrounds behind the band Sabaton's military history themed songs (plus a behind the scenes of the songs themselves).
