Crown Prince/Princess
The Crown Prince/Princess is the designated heir to the King/Queen typically the eldest child, some cultures favor male or female childern, others simply go by first born.
Appointment
In the Kingdom of StormHaven a ceremony is held when the oldest son comes of age where they could run the Kingdom on their own, to honor this they are named crown prince, in front of the people of Kynem and the Nobility.
Cultural Significance
For the Stormlanders, and the sub cultures of it. Having a crown prince is a big deal, it ensures succession, As the King has formally named a child, while typically the first born son, it has been the eldest daughter once, and a younger son a few times. This ensures that all other childern have a significantly lesser claim to the throne, when compared to the appointed Crown Prince/Princess,
