Dark-Elves

During the Third Council of Askareia the elven tribes made a decision to oppose the Second God, that is all but one of them. The tribe of Shatun decided otherwise and remained loyal to the Outsider
Dark-Elves are a separate species from regular Elves, yet they are the descendents of Elves. Their origins aren't natural. While elves developed from archaic hominids, called Wild-Elves, Dark-Elves are changed unnatural beings created by the Second God.

Origin

Elven history tells us that there was once ten nations. Their names were Aldrim, Dumul, Shatun, Geleter, Eandu, Ishmak, Kaolai, Kutek, Kenatan and the Yupanki. The Eandu and Kutek vanished in ancient times and nobody knows what happened to them.   When elven civilisation flourished they founded the Union of Askareia of the eight nations united. During this time they discovered the Second God and its powers. While the Second God offered great powers it made dependent and corrupted. Many elves became increasingly worried. During the Third Council of Askareia they debated the topic. Most elves were afraid of further interaction with the Second God, many even greatly opposed it and wanted to destroy its influence on the world. One nation however decided differently, the Shatun. This lead to the decision to banish the Shatun from Askareia and exclude them from their Union.

War against the Second God

The Shatun felt insulted by their elven kin and sought revenge on them. Meanwhile the other elves decided that it would be best to contain the Second God in its own prison. For this they transformed a large area of land, where the majority of force of the Second God was concentrated into a prison. This imprisonment did not go without any resistance from the Second God, which unleashed its Children to kill the traitorous elves. The Shatun meanwhile strengthened their pact with the Second God and allowed themself to be transformed. From this day onwards they'd be known as Dark-Elves. Their bodies changed and became monstrous. Their minds were consumed with the desire for revenge and the hate of their former kin. Their life was misshappen and their shapes became the parodies of their former bodies.   Dark-Elves have no uniforme humanoid appearance. They can be classified into castes. While the leaders retained most of their humanoid appearance, soldiers became ever more beastlike and lost much of their sapience. They became nothing more than drones for their overlords.   The great Queen of the Shatun unleashed the Damat on the Dwarves, destroying their civilisation and driving them to near extinction. They enslaved human tribes and experimented on them, transforming them with the powers given by the Second God. Much of the history of this conflict has been forgotten. The Warriors of Askareia were in the end victorious and defeated the Second God, but did not destroy it, as they could not. The majority of all elves perished in this conflict. Most members of the Ishmak and Geleter nations were killed, as did all other nations suffer heavy losses. Elven civilisation would never again reach similar heights.

Later Eras

The Second God could not be destroyed and it could merely be contained. Most of its forces were annihilated, thus much of its grip on the world was exterminated for good. The Shatun were mostly destroyed, but did survive. Their Queen especially survived the conflict. Due to the diminished power of the Second God, they could not reestablish contact with it and had to remain in hiding, as they were weak outside of its influence.   Despite this they persisted and remained a threat for the following centuries. The remaining elven nations did from time to time lead expeditions to find and exterminate the remaining Shatun, but were mostly unsuccessful. Additionally they lacked the strength for another large war. Most war also preoccupied at the containment of the Second God within its own prison.   At some point during the so called First Age of Humanity, they began to regain strength and to prey on the human realms. As the threat of another rise of the Second God grew larger, a human King, called Dauler the Great took up arms against the Shatun. He reunited the human realms, aswell as dwarves and elves to fight against Corruption, the name given to the Second God. At the Battle of Illangar they defeated the Shatun and killed their Queen. In the following decades he went onto a crusade to rid the world of Corruption once and for all. It was not successful as it could not. Despite this he ushered in an age of unprecedented prosperity for humankind.   It is unknown how many Dark-Elves are left in the world. The mage Noritë warns that they might rise again from the shadows. In this age of peace her warning is seldom paid attention however. It seems that the world is on the brink of destruction without knowing it.
