Kenatan

Children of the Stars

Those who sail along the shores of the Dreamless Sea have kept their ancient ways.
The Kenatan are one of the extant elven nations. Apart from them there are also the Kaolai, Yupanki and the much diminished Ishmak. Further north there are the Geleter, Shatun, Dumul and the Aldrim. Out of these only the Aldrim are considered intact.

History

The Kenatan are the third largest elven nation in the world. Much of their early history has been lost. They themself say that they were once subjects of the Empire of Eternal Spring, but were among the first to rebell against the Empress of Eternal Spring.   During the Age of Askareia they supported the other elves against the Shatun and against the Second God. Especially the western parts of their homeland were destroyed during this war. The region called the Great Scar is a remnant of this conflict.   In modern history, the two other elven nations have often judged the Kenatan for being lethargic. They are bound by their rituals and practices and have closed their eyes to the rest of the world. While the Yupanki are also isolationist, they nonetheless cling to their imperial glory.

Society

The Kenatan have never formed a great Empire unlike other elven nations. Instead they live in small cities, which dot the coasts of the Silver Sea and especially the Dreamless Sea. Each city is ruled by a council of elders of all the families within the city.   In a way similar to the Aldrim in the north, the Kenatan have begun to trade with several human realms. Many claim that they have given up on the idea of elven supremacy and now try to spread their knowledge onto the humans, whom they recognise as the next rising civilisation in the world. The Yupanki and Kaolai both see this as treason and reason to despise the Kenatan. The Kenatan on the other hand see it as pragmatic way to preserve their own civilisation. However teaching humans is still seen as controversial among them and many forbid certain rituals to be performed in human presence or disallow humans from visiting the Dreamless Sea alltogether.
