Shatun

Children of the Darkness

They are the mishappen descendents of those who stood on the other side during the war.
The Shatun were one of the four northern elven nations. The other three are the Dumul, Aldrim and the Geleter. The Shatun used to live in the area east of the Aldrim. This region is now one of the core territories of the Daulerim Empire and Aretina.

History

Age of Askareia

When elven civilisation flourished they founded the Union of Askareia of the eight nations united. During this time they discovered the Second God and its powers. While the Second God offered great powers it made dependent and corrupted. Many elves became increasingly worried. During the Third Council of Askareia they debated the topic. Most elves were afraid of further interaction with the Second God, many even greatly opposed it and wanted to destroy its influence on the world. One nation however decided differently, the Shatun. This lead to the decision to banish the Shatun from Askareia and exclude them from their Union.

War against the Second God

As consequence for their banishment, the Shatun strengthened their alliance with the Second God. In exchange for their loyalty, the Shatun recieved a Gift from it, changing the bodies and minds of the elves. The creatures, which were born from this gift were known as Dark-Elves. They had become monstrous abominations of their former self.   The following events are poorly understood, how the war exactly started. The elves as part of their effort to contain the Second God, build a continental prison. It is not clear whether the attack on Askareia happened after or before this attempted imprisonment. The result was that the prison was broken and Askareia was destroyed and abandoned. The following years saw the heigt of the War against the Second God, in which whole continents were changed forever. Several of the elven nations suffered heavy casualties, most notably the Ishmak, whose former homeland was closest to the epicentre of the war.   It is also uncertain how the war ended. The popular narrative is that a Champion of the Ishmak fought its closing battles and banished the Second God. Its influence however still lingers on in the world and Dark-Elves still survived the war, including their Queen. Others hold the opinion that the war in fact ended in a stalemate. Dark-Elves survived the war and still called themself Shatun, although other elven nations hold the opinion, that the Shatun have died out.
