Initial Situation

Our Soulventures disband because of death left and right. The new Soulweavers help to combat this predicament, but only to a small extent. However, I think that if we could somehow enhance the abilities of our Soulweavers, we could prevent a lot more deaths.

Concept

We have designed Soulweavers to use magic trinkets in order to support their team, so the easiest way to solve the situation, is to build a powerful trinket.

Power of Time

We have already found ways to store magical power through different Soulsilk applications. However, the attribute of time has yet to be more closely studied, and I think a trinket making use of this power would be the key to success. If we were able to build a trinket that could manipulate time itself, who knows how many lives we could safe!

Manufactoring Process

To build such a device, you first have to be a Soulweaver, secondly have a couple of materials, such as Soulsilk, a magically charged crystal, some wood for the casing, and some glass, and thirdly be in the vicinity of raw chrono-charged ore.

Building the Crystal Sphere

The chronomagic within the ore needs to first be extracted through the weavers needle and Soulsilk. This process is called Extractweaving and is already used in some trinket forging, so no need to reinvent the wheel there. The time magic will then be stored inside the crystal, and be sealed within somehow. I reckon this can be accomplished by coating the crystal with the glass, containing a spell cast by the Soulweaver. Depending on the strength of the spell and the materials used, the properties of the hourglass would vary.

Casing

The wooden case for the sphere can be of any kind, though my guess would be that magically attributed wood could work best. Here, a simple hourglass-shaped case will do the trick, with minor tweaks, such as tiny indents which will later be used to hold the crystal in place. Here more Soulsilk will be used, so that the Soulweaver can access the magic by only touching the wood.

Usage and Variants

The trinket is a major success! It works even better than we initially thought... As you wish Professor, I will document the ways people have used the hourglass for future improvements and Soulweaver classes.

Standard Applications

First off, it has to be said that mastering the hourglass proofed significantly harder than any other common trinket used by Soulweavers. Most of them are more than happy to be able to use the basic skills needed to pass the academy. Those being: Slowing down an enemy, thus giving more time for Soulventure members to react. Speeding up time around a wound to let it heal faster. And lastly the practice of expanding the area that can simultaniously be influenced by the hourglass, because the larger area you can cover, the more applications you can learn throughout your career.

Advanced Applications

These skills can be learned after graduating from the Academy, granted you either have immense skill or have a master that teaches you beyond the academic grounds. Those being: Chronoslash, which speeds up time around the weapon of a Slaughterers to deliver a much heavier hit. Multi-Area Chronoweaving, which is the act of performing two or more simultaneous actions with the hourglass. Lastly, Chronohaste is a skill where you can accelerate one or more partymembers, enhancing mostly their travelspeed.

Further Mastered Applications

There are more skills to be learned, and the applications of how you use your abilities is always the limiting factor. The coming skills however can only be performed by the most venerated masters of the Timeweavers Hourglass, combined with the most high grade hourglasses out there. First, Turning Back Time, a skill where you reverse the flow of time in a given area and are thus able to even cure deceased adventurers. Depending on the mastery, even the best Soulweaver out there can only revert time up to three seconds. And Secondly, Futuresensing, a skill that lets the Soulweaver see the actions and paths their companions take in the near future, thus being able to alter their very destiny accordingly. Much the same as the first skill, this one lets the Soulweaver look five seconds at most into the future.

Symbolic Value

Some teachers gift their students hourglasses after graduation. Depending on the grade of the gift, most students can guess how their relationship status with their teacher was. Even in the face of probable death, the humor in being gifted a semi-well crafted hourglass right after the top student was awarded an hourglass that could single handedly fell the gods themselves, if there were any to begin with, never ceases to raise a chuckle. Because the fact remains that even that semi-well made hourglass can safe your life in a deadly encounter.
