Hyrule

The Land of the Goddess

Nerisaga took in a sharp lungful of cold mountain air as they braced themself for one final burst of energy, pulling themself up onto the last rocky, snowy ledge of their journey. A few more huffs and they were ready to continue on to the Light Spirit's Spring, but first... They looked back. Back, across the horizon of Hyrule behind them. They took in the view of the vast planes, the arid desert, dense forests, and shining blue waters, and wondered how anything could go wrong in such a beautiful land. They wondered why the Goddesses had ever brought themselves to abandon such a beautiful creation, and lamented the civil war that had driven them away from it. They took hold of the ruby-set pendant hanging around their neck.

"Din, give me strength," they whispered, turning back to walk the nearly-forgotten path to the spring.

Geography

The land of Hyrule is vast, to say the least, spanning many different climates, each with their own cultures.   To the northwest lies the Snowpeak mountains, a wild place rumored to be home to many wild beasts such as wolves, bears, and, in some myths, Yetis. Those who are still religious respect Snowpeak as the home of the Light Spirit Vildun. The mountain's climate is not a forgiving one, as snowstorms tend to be the norm near the peak, and snow covers the mountain in deep snow all year round. However, some brave (or maybe stupid), adventure-seeking Hylians venture up, and come sledding down on their shields. Some even consider it a hobby, even with the risk of getting eaten by wolves.   The northeast side of Hyrule is home to some of the hardiest of folk, the Gorons. These people make their living between or even inside the lava flows of Death Mountain, mining the precious minerals and bathing in the mountain springs and geysers. At the base of Death Mountain is Kakariko Village, famously known to be home to the Shiekah people. The land near Kakariko that has been cleared of dense forest is very fertile, and is used to farm various high-quality crops.   To the east lies Lake Hylia, which flows into the Rutelan Ocean. These waterways, in general, have been claimed by the Zora people. However, they begrudgingly allow others to fish in both the freshwater lake and the saltwater of their ocean. On the northern shores of Lake Hylia rests Hyrule's new capitol, the shining city of Ingot.   The southeast corner of Hyrule is covered in dense, green, wild forests, home to many species of animal, plants, and birds, as well as the tree people called Koroks and Kokiri. These mischievous beings act as guardians of the Lost Forest, playing tricks on travelers that wander too far into the trees. Some say that in the deepest part of the forest lies the Spirit Spring, home to Light Spirit Rubrai, who guards the entrance to the Sacred Realm.   The western part of Hyrule is covered in hot, arid sands. Not much lives among the dunes, except for wild and dark creatures that have adapted to the desert, preying on any poor soul too lost to find their way back. However, the once-nomadic tribes of Gerudo people have set up several camps across the desert, each one with a separate Matriarch. These hardy people value strength and power above all else, but are also quite skilled in crafting jewelry, weapons, armor, and other metalworks. Also within the desert lies the reclaimed ruins of the Arbiter's Castle, and what used to be a prison is now home to wandering Gerudo as well as immigrant Twili, fresh from their home, the Twilight Realm. The Arbiter's Castle houses the Mirror of Twilight, once shattered, but now renewed and operational as the portal between the Light Realm and the Twilight Realm.   And lastly, in the center of Hyrule, lies what is known as simply Hyrule Field. In the middle of Hyrule Field stands Lon Lon City, a place that was once a simple ranch but has now turned into a bustling trade center. The farmers and ranchers around Lon Lon are known for breeding the finest horses and exporting most of Hyrule's food supply.
