WHO ARE THEY

The Van Helsings are an organization of monster hunters run as one family. Their goal is to kill or confine all monsters, especially those who prey upon humans. Through the use of silver weapons, holy relics, inventions, and a bit of magic, they have grown into a force that terrifies most monsters. Their greatest frustration is Dracula, the one foe they have never managed to hunt down and destroy.
With their headquarters located in the great citadel at Alba Iulia, they have a devastatingly secure base to work from. Best of all, the citadel is far bigger than it looks as most of it is built into the mountain.

ORIGIN

In 1368, the Van Helsings lost three children to a monster during one dreadful summer. Abraham and Barbara Van Helsing swore to hunt to hunt that monster down. avenge their children. They succeeded, though Barbara was grievously injured and left crippled in one leg. Their victory brought them the justice but it was not enough to ease their fear for their two remaining children.
Abraham would strike down monsters wherever he found them. Ever the scholar, Barbara came up with a plan. Find others who have lost family to monsters. Learn all they knew about their monster. Its simplicity proved highly effectictive over the years.
In 1408, Dorin Van Helsing and his sister Roxana, with the blessing of their now elderly parents, led all their hunters against the meager force of monsters left behind to defend the Citadel during a turbulent time between the Shadow Dragons. It was an overwhelming victory that not only won them ther Citadel, but broke the power the Order of the Dragon held over the other monster factions.
Over the generations, the Van Helsings have expanded into four outposts: North, South, East and West that keep in contact with the Citadel through the fastest messenger pigeons in all of Europe.

Van Helsing Structure

Though there are no more actual Van Helsings still alive today, their oraganization carries on like a family.
The Head of Household is called Mother or Father and sacrifices their given name to choose a new one between Father Abraham or Mother Barbara Van Helsing.
Underneath the Head of Household are the four Outpost Leaders. As Mother and Father do, so too do these Aunts and Uncles take up a Van Helsing name.
These leader names are:

• North Leader chooses between Uncle Dorin or Aunt Madalina

• East Leader chooses between Uncle Petar or Aunt Iona

• South Leader chooses between Uncle Bodgan or Aunt Roxana

• West Leader chooses between Uncle Victor or Aunt Cecilia

The rest of the hunters choose to be called Brother or Sister but keep their given names.
