The Scorched Dunes

Burned flesh and dried bones are what await most who venture into the never ending sands and rocks of The Scorched Dunes. This land has the longest days and the shortest nights, here the sun burns so hot that the first few layers of sand are known to turn to glass at the height of the day and freeze and shatter at night. Here their is no natural water only the artificial aqueducts of the Dwarves and the wells of the small villages and outposts. The dunes are any travellers last stop before they must cross The Boiling Sea into the Sun-Most Nexus.

Geography

The Scorched Dunes is an expanse of rolling mountains of sand and rock alike. The winds from the sea of clouds wash over the dunes like a mighty storm that kicks up enormous dust storms that can choke out the entirety of the dunes for weeks. The small mountain ranges within the dunes are a haven for any creature brave enough to venture into them, they are great Plateaued towers of orange stone that tower hundreds of feet above the sands, connected with massive land bridges carved out of the stone by the winds over the span of eons. But it is not simply mountains that dot the landscape of the dunes but great crevasses and ravines that fill and empty of sand as the wind changes.

Fauna & Flora

In the way of plant life the dunes only house some pockets of cacti and dead burned trees. The cacti have developed thick and rocky skin with protruding poisonous barbs sticking out of the cracks as to hopefully kill any creature dumb enough to try and rub its back against it or attempt to use it as shade. The animals of the dunes are reclusive and very dangerous they have become extremely durably and dangerous carnivores that wait until the dead of night to hunt. Giant mole like creatures burrow under the dunes searching for even the slightest vibration of a possible prey. While on the surface dinner plate sized scorpions and wasps fight over the thick hided armadillos that roll around the dunes in a tight ball. But the wasps are not the rulers of the air no, that title goes to the dog sized vultures that fly far above the dunes and perch on the highest towers of stone.

Natural Resources

The orange stone from the dunes is said to always radiate heat no matter how cold the climate may get. And the venom from the scorpions and wasps can become very flammable if fermented for long enough and the hide of the armidillos is used by many for plate armor.
