Lunar Ring

A Lunar Ring is a phenomenon seen on Homeworld, where it's two moons synchonise in orbit, causing a ring-like eclipse.

Appearance

The Lunar Ring is a transient event, only lasting for a short window of time. While it can been occasionally seen during the day, it's best seen at night when it gives the appearance of glowing.   Due to the differences and sizes of the too Homeworld moons, the event of the Lunar Ring is irregular, with intervals ranging from several months to years. Priests of The Songs of the Stars observe the orbital patterns of the moons to predict when the occurrence, to give the other homeworlders the opportunity to prepare and witness the event.

Cultural Reception

The Lunar Ring is featured in many artworks, documentation and engraved of objects such as the Star Box.   While having no deep religious connotations with the Songs of the Stars or The Children of the Abyss, both groups have noted it's beauty, with Song of the Stars making common mentions of the glow it reflects, and the Children of the Abyss comments of the how it forms the appearance of a Void-like hole.   In Childcare Facilities and Hooman Education, it is usually mentioned when teaching youngling about space and the stars.   When it's predicted to occur, many Hooman families will get together to witness the event while socialising.
