Everyone travelling the world will have had a map at some point; whether its one from a city to find their way to a specific building or living quarters of a person, or from the environment or region to find their way to the next town. Cartographers are the essential, but invisible people, who make sure that there is an up to date map at all times.

More than just Drawing

The Wanderers are most well known for being the best cartographers to wander the face of Hesli. Naturally, they trek through the different environments and cannot stay at one place for longer than strictly necessary. Their Wanderers School of Cartography also helps a great deal with providing the world with excellent map makers that travel the world and let their work be reviewed by their old professors and classmates.
Most people think that the Wanderers School primarily teaches drawing, but that is actually one of the things they teach the least. One thing that is more important, is being able to survive in the wild. After all, a cartographer isn't useful when they have been eaten by a large predator. So, learning how to defend oneself, or rather avoid getting into trouble at all, takes the most practice for the majority of students. The rest comes fairly easily: cooking meals, getting a fire up, getting a sleeping space set up, foraging for edible berries, hunting responsibly.

Royalties

Most cartographers don't get paid a whole lot. They draw maps for specific companies upon request, or take commissions from private customers. The few that make it into the mainstream maps tend to have a better income. On each map sold, they receive royalties of a few percent. Once they get low on money, the cartographer can go to one of the selling offices to retrieve however much royalties they have been awarded for their work.
