Alara is a member of the secretive Watch Orders, the Gloom Watch, having long served the Radiant as an intelligence gatherer and master of spy networks, though she is also a renowned combatant as are most of the Ysra family. She is a calm and collected individual, fiercely loyal to her family and those she deems friends. Many have described her as friendly and expressive, but those who know her more closely know her to possess a cold demeanor, calculated and manipulative to further her goals.

Somewhat unorthodox among her family, Alara did not follow in her family traditions of joining a sword order, but joined a watch order, though this has made relations somewhat tense, as the Ysra do not take kindly to what they view as abandoning their traditions and family, they are still family and she often does what she can to help her family in a way that she deems is more useful to them.
