New Years Resolutions 2025

World Anvil Reading

I managed to carve out some time to get a bulk of reading done. Here are the articles that stood out to me!

The First
Character | Jan 4, 2025
By DesdemonaRose

I really like how this article exposes the vanity of the first. The fact that they/it/he/she has created entities to fill a gap only to be disappointed but also content with the outcome is an interesting idea too. A great take on gods and their playthings.

Proboscis Goat Paranoia
Condition | Feb 2, 2025
By Blue Fairy 74

This article takes a real world illness to a heightened level which has some interesting connotations for the inhabitants of the world. All due to some cute little goats.

Zeyra Leryn
Character | Apr 11, 2025
By Leijona

A really nice take on the underdog story. A talented individual finding their place in the world. Great character building and left me wanting to read more!

Sun elf dialect
Language | Dec 3, 2024

The native dialect of Sun and Desert elves.

By Callyxtus

I really enjoyed the way that this article established a baseline language for the elven race and then displayed how that has developed over time into a unique dialect. Maintaining aspects of traditional Elvish while peppering it with uniqueness!

Palepellis
Condition | Feb 11, 2025

A genetic condition affecting Vampires that hinders the production of skin pigments, resulting in pale skin, hair and eyes.

By CoolG1319

Vampires are a tried and tested fantasy race that can often feel monstrous with little reasoning attached. This article shows how a single ailment can change the culture and living style of an entire subsect of beings.

The Larinese
Ethnicity | Dec 1, 2024

The Larinese are the shapeshifter inhabitants of Larinsa, a relatively remote Caian island to the south of Achia. They are one of the rare groups of avian shifters who do not reside in the stronghold of Teht Krekahw.

By Serukis

I love the idea of shapeshifters within society in general and how they would integrate themselves. I especially love the traits that have been extracted out of their shifted forms that apply to their usual form.

Anarithian Dwarves
Species | Dec 28, 2024
By Jaroslav Hrabkovský

An interesting take on the fantasy dwarf race. With some traditional tropes for dwarvenkind mixed with some that are quite different from what is expected. This article looks to be a great starting point for some very interesting stories to emerge from!

Driftglass
Material | Jan 4, 2025

Glass that has been tumbled by the sea and formed into precious little pebbles of frosted glass that is a sight to behold, but doesn't hold much value outside of the occasional momento.

By M.R.R. Shelswell

A lovely article steeped in detail and story. I especially love the story around the source of the glass. It really feels like a tale passed down from parent to child as a way of filling the unknown.

  By Bladeswillfall

The imagery of hulking masses moving through a battlefield being followed by their flesh mechanics is quite striking.

The Forgefather's Trial: An Ancient Dwarven Myth
Myth | Dec 11, 2024
By GreyTailZA

Trust a dwarf to solve a problem with his craft! A lovely little myth to remind all the dwarves to be still with their greed.

What I Learned

I took the reading challenge to select articles that I felt were close to my own world. To look at how others were approaching similar topics to my own. I can tell that I still have a long way to go in terms of really fleshing out a living, breathing world but insights from the articles above will play a part in the journey.

My New Year's Resolutions

This year I plan to keep worldbuilding. I want to take part in the 2025 Summer Camp and 2025 World Ember to help achieve this goal.   Along with this, I'm also hoping to make a start on a fantasy novel that takes place in the world I am creating.   All of this alongside a full time job, relationship, game jams and game development! Wish me luck!

Thanks for writing about the gullpeople! I'm diving in the deep end while I'm still naive and hopeful haha

I don't think there will be anything more to read about Zeyra, but hopefully I will write some other stuff that you will enjoy reading. Glad you like here. Good luck with your goals for this year!
