The Larinese

Gull shifters of Larinsa

This article is a stub. Please comment if you would like it to become a priority for expansion.
The Larinese are the shapeshifter inhabitants of Larinsa, a relatively remote Caian island to the south of Achia. They are one of the rare groups of avian shifters who do not reside in the stronghold of Teht Krekahw; their animal form is the rock gull, a seabird native to the Grey Waters. Despite the remoteness of their home, they are welcoming to outsiders, regularly rowing out to greet passing ships and to initiate trade.   Larinese society is extremely community based, with the needs of the many prioritised over the needs of the individual. However, it is also the community's responsibility to see to it that every individual has enough food and adequate shelter. Though children live with their parents, it is on the whole community to make sure they are raised properly, and with the values of the society.   The Larinese are pescatarian, surviving mainly on seafood and crops native to Larinsa. Some years they also manage to grow crops they have traded for with passing merchant ships, though often these seeds cannot grow in Larinsa's chalky and sandy soil. Meat is not consumed by the Larinese, and it is particularly taboo to eat the meat from birds.

Is there a particular reason why they don’t live in Teht Krekahw, or is happenstance?

Just happenstance. Living on an island on another continent, mainly. Though I don't think they'd want to leave their home even if the offer was extended.

Please tell me that these shapeshifters personalities also change when shifting. I would love to see a lovely, peaceful people shapeshift into a chip stealing, territorial bird-people that regularly scream at the top of their lungs for seemingly no reason.

Hahahahaha, that would be fun, but I think they maintain their sentience and personality, sadly. I definitely need a character who is a stereotypical English seagull though.
